Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

    Overall

Definitely targetted at teens: lot's of gore, menacing gangs, dreamy dudes and reality TV. I didn't find it satisfying though I clung to my investment and listened until the end. There were many occasions I wanted to fast-forward or giggle at the author's contrivance of Katniss and Peeta uniting as a warrior couple (though Katniss does most of the warrioring): by a convenient change of the game rules. Maybe I should not have listened to it after Follett or G. R. R. Martin. Oh well. No sequel for me.

In this extraordinary novel, Karen Maitland delivers a dazzling reinterpretation of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, an ingenious alchemy of history, mystery, and powerful human drama. Magical, heart-quickening, and raw, Company of Liars is a work of vaulting imagination from a powerful new voice in historical fiction.

This audio fully engaged me. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've had. I am a fan of Maitland's imaginative vision. Beautifully crafted and pulls you all the way to the surprising end of this tale. Happy it's in my library for repeat listenings.
