This book was so convoluted in the opening, I never could figure out who the main character was. Then the pacing of the story was so slow, I never could get into it. This was a wasted credit
This book was really really good! Brandon knows how to write a very detailed book that keeps you in with it until the end. I loved it.
The magic perspective was different and refreshing, but the characters were like an after school special. I guess I just like a little more grit with my stories. This one was not for me.
I guess I got this book before the 1st book in the series and this may have contributed to my dislike of it. The narrator is fantastic. The many characters have their own style and voice which was awesome. But half the book I spent, thinking what are they referring to? I had no ideal without getting the 1st book, first. My bad.
It seems to me as if the characters keep running in circles. They go on grand adventures and still end up being the same miserable people they always were. This is really getting monotonous. Event if the narrator is good, I don't think he can save this book.
I've not read too many books from the first person point of view. This made the book seem odd. Especially when it went to speak of other characters in it. I did not find this book as great as many of the reviews said. The story line ambled along at a very slow pace. The characters did not seem real enough for the topic being discussed. I guess I wish I had saved my credit. It was not worth it.
I kind of like this story. I like Jane when she's not so dependent on other people. And she was in full fighting form this time . This story was wonderful and full of surprises. I'd recommend it for a good listen.
OK, I almost put this one back down after chapter one, but some little voice said grit your teeth it might get better. So I did and lo and behold, somewhere around chapter 3, it got a bit better. The ending was awesome. Glad I stuck it thru. Took me a while to figure out I was listening to three different story lines. Transitions between character plots could be better. And everyone need not have a Scottish accent-but this got better as time went on too.
The next installation needs to be a bit snappier. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Thumbs up. I recommend giving it a try. Just keep the coffee going for the first three chapters. It made me want to see what happens next. Don't wait too long to get it out there or we'll all forget because there were a lot of fine details that happened in Book 1.
There were parts I liked, but there were a lot of parts I didn't like. Girl versus the system I liked. Girl not being isolated from society I didn't like. I guess I just can't get into "steampunk", but I tried. I can't in good conscience recommend this book. I give it an "E" for effort. Try at your own risk.
Didn't see that one coming, but its a super ideal. Story was full of action and adventure. Just the way I like 'em. Even a little underlying romance. But the concept was the best, because I just hadn't seen or heard of this being done before. Kudos! Looking forward to the next one.
I wrote a review before one this one, but I am retracting it. As the story progressed, it became riveting. I couldn't hardly put it down. While at first I hated the narrator's voice, I found it more tolerable as the characters and storyline developed. I feel the story is original and is something that I would like to see more of. Kresley Cole is a great writer and its refreshing to see this type of twist to her writing style. The only question is, where on earth are the other parts to this trilogy????? When are they coming out????
