"Ahhhhh a Vet & an Enforcer become life mates"
Lynsay Sands is known to give us awesome listens - so if you are like me (a big Argeneau fan) and have already listened to books 1-17 then you pretty much know what you're going to get. I stopped the book I was listening to and immediately, excitedly and eagerly started this one (I know I know that's a bit sad but hey!).
This has a brilliant start as Valerie escapes her 10 day capture and torture by a bloodthirsty rogue vampire and meets Anders (in walks talk dark & handsome) on the team that saved her, but she's unaware that he's also the very thing that she's just escaped from. Anders realises he's met his life mate and there's instant attraction, bewilderment, humour, friendships, a few tense moments, an exciting delivery and a happy event together with past familiar characters who either make short appearances or are part of the story which all contribute to filling the hours quite happily.
However, on the negative side and I'm really sorry to say that this listen left me slightly disappointed as it just felt a little bit of a watered down version of her usual action packed sexually charged listens. I wanted a bit more passion, more sexual attraction and interaction and more excitement between the two lovers which seemed a little tame. Also, there didn't seem to be much focus/history/involvement in the story on the villains as to the who/what/why's etc. until the very end.
Worth the credit? Despite my negative comments, this was a very creditworthy vampire tale and a good addition to the Argeneau's family tree. These books could all be a stand alone listen as each mentions the origins of their species however they all contain some references to other family members so, to get the full Argeneau 'family unit' effect, I highly recommend them all.
"NOT HEART-POUNDING - JUST A NICE EASYGOING LISTEN"
Julia London branches out into the Contemporary genre from her usual Historical romances and the result is a light refreshing feel-good listen.
It was a fun listen too as Eli tries to make a success of her new wedding planning business whilst being employed and drawn to the handsome and all too capable hunk Marnie who is a member of an extreme sports junky group called Thrillseekers Anonymous but he's been burned by love before and tries to keep away. However, she is funny, sassy, sexy and lovely and, as disaster strikes, he has a hard time resisting her, and of course, in the end he gives in to temptation (not too graphic).
Worth a credit? It's an easy going, light romance with nice characters and for $7.95 for nearly 12 hours it's a bargain. I wouldn't use a credit I'd just buy it and save my credit for a pricier listen.
"PARANORMAL INTRIGUE,DUTY & LOVE MAKE A GREAT COMBO"
Six handsome hunky time travelling Warriors working for the Fae battling evil and saving realms then moving on to the next evil threat. This was a delicious start to DG's new paranormal series that had fast paced action, mystery, magic, a murdering demon, romance, sex, love, evil siblings, a few twists - and all this was intertwined with the 'oh, who is it?' basis of the storyline that keeps you guessing..... and your earphones glued in.
Great characters, Hugh the leader of The Shields is instantly attracted to Mina however they were there to do a job and so he tried to fight his attraction to the lovely Mina but, of course, he failed. However, her family had really done a great job in tormenting her through the years so her self-worth was at zero but despite that she started to believe him. Hugh had been deceived before by love and just couldn't trust her and this played a big part in the story which, unfortunately, became repetitive and a bit annoying coupled with Mina's constant low self esteem issues sadly lost this otherwise exciting listen a point from me.
Worth a credit? Now we've met the characters, learned some of the who, what's and whys of The Shields the foundation has been set and I can't wait to discover what imaginative supernatural story-lines DG will conjure up for us in her forthcoming books as she adds and subtracts the Warriors in the series. Sorry, back to the worth a credit question - well that should of been easily answered by my review - an absolute YES.
"TWO GREAT VAMPIRE TALES WITH DESIRE, LUST & LOVE"
The only thing wrong with these 2 books is that they just weren't long enough but I guess it's the enjoyability that counts!
The first story had vampire Nick getting bitten by a werewolf whilst trying to save a damsel in distress, Lainey, from a pack of werewolves but he kills a few members of the pack so they are forced to lock themselves into his private underground bunker whilst the werewolf pack is outside getting more and more angry.
Nick sets off an SOS to his fellow vamps but whilst they take their time getting there he gets to know Lainey far better, in fact quite intimately. Hot romantic emotional story that has murder, is action packed but there's deadly tension as the full moon is coming and Nick thinks Lainey is going to be his first victim if he changes into a monster werewolf/vampire hybrid.
In the second story we witness Isla being given a free holiday - but she soon finds out that nothing's ever free as it's an island full of hungry vampires and vampire Sloane has to step up and save her from the head honcho who's a sick evil vampire and is desperately in need of Isla's blood so he has his fangs out ready to drain her. A sexy, action packed listen with a few surprises as beauty is saved by the beast.
Worth a credit? What's not to like - there's drama, romance, sex and plenty of paranormal action - so that's a YES.
"WE'RE ON THE EVE OF A GREAT NEW SUSPENSE SERIES"
Love love love Sylvia Day's books and this is the start of a promising paranormal listen which is a fast paced story about celestial retribution as Cain and Abel fight and kill Demons for God but both lookalike brothers have fallen for the same woman - Eve but one brother marked her for servitude to fight Demons for God and one loves her. She becomes a pawn in the supernatural fight that has witches, werewolves, archangels, various demons, angels and, of course, marked souls and we, the listeners, are thrown in to watch the torment and mayhem as it unfolds.
Skilfully written and fresh the imaginative world building by SD is a totally new concept in the paranormal world and we have no idea what or who we are going to encounter next... we hear about God and his troops but what about Lucifer? It's got an attention grabbing first chapter then we are thrown into six weeks prior to it, couple this with sex, violence, drama, intrigue, plot twists, romance, likeable main characters and some evil ones too. You end up feeling like you're on a great mysterious funfair ride however, you don't know what it does, what comes next or where, when or how it's going to eventually finish but you know it's gonna be one hell of a ride and so all you can do is hold on tight and scream gimme more more more.
Worth a credit? Oh my God after this review..... it's a heavenly YES of course, and I pray Audible will give us the other 4 books in this series.
"COWBOYS, FUEDS AND 2 LOVERS ON OPPOSITE SIDES"
Johanna Lindsay is an auto download for me and she has branched out from her brilliant historical novels to delve into the world of the cowboys - with great success.
Spoilt, yet mentally tormented, Tiffany finally meets her betrothed a handsome cowboy named Hunter and the attraction begins but so too does a borrowed identity which leads to disaster in the kitchen, tears, frustration but there's a building romance that's unfortunately doomed before it ever begins.
Blink and you miss the sex bit but it's also filled with funny, sad, tender, romantic and joyous bits as slowly Tiffany learns that there's more to life than just table manners - as Hunter is all too keen to show her. Good supporting characters too make this an enjoyable listen as two feuding families finally share secrets, enemies are revealed and love does, eventually, conquer all.
Worth a credit? In my opinion anything J.L writes is a YES and this one is no exception.
"A BATTLE SCARRED WARRIOR & A MEEK VIRGIN... DELISH"
Well I thought I was a BIG fan of kilt wearing Highlanders but this book proved me wrong 'cause swoon-worthy, leather troozer clad, weapon-wielding Highland Warriors certainly get my vote too.
This was a delicious listen even though I don't really like books only told in the 'first person' but this somehow captures your interest as the plight and life of Stella slowly unravels and sucks you right in as she is forced to wed above mentioned handsome Highland hunk Kade. It's a tender, sweet, sexy love story but it's also got interesting sub plots that's filled with either likeable, manipulative, rough, dislikable or just plain evil characters all waiting to help, hinder or double cross the newly weds so sacrifice, revenge and murder are waiting in the wings for their chance to join in.
Kade promises not to consummate the marriage for one whole month as Stella is so frightened of him so instead he tortures her with desire as he masterfully and skilfully stokes and strokes the flames of her passion in some very hot and imaginative ways and yet he's so kind, thoughtful and protective towards her too so who wouldn't melt in his arms. It's a sensual overload journey that she's on so for those of you who prefer a 'sex free' listen then perhaps look elsewhere.
This is actually book 2 of The Clan Mackenzie trilogy but I didn't feel it mattered at all, I'm just hoping Audible will soon stock the others.
Worth a credit? Yes, another highland tale that's a scorcher too.
"THE ROLLER COASTER LOVE STORY CONTINUES"
I love Sylvia Day books and they are an automatic download for me - and these Crossfire books have been exceptional and just yummy.
I found that this book, rather than having one main plot, seemed to have either lots of little sub plots going on or Eva and Gideon were entwined with each other over and over and over again. It seemed to be a book that laid down lots of foundations for future events with few events to call it's own. However, I did find those few events entertaining, frustrating, romantic and hot but.... there was just a little too much sex and not quite enough dialogue.
Worth a credit? Yes, no matter what - I'm hooked........ and eagerly awaiting the next 2 instalments.
"HE WAS SEX ON LEGS & SHE WAS CHAINED TO HIM - Mmmm"
Good start to a new paranormal series filled with all sorts of supernatural creatures - vampires, zombies, wizards, witches, demons and magic.
What a yummy vampire he is and to quote Abby - handsome with black biker boots, black jeans, black silk shirt, big muscles bad boy Dante was quite simply sex on legs (and I agree) along with tender, thoughtful, kind and besotted with Abby. The h/h were supernaturally hooked up nearly from the start and they finally went from being pursued to being the persuers when they decided to take their fate in their own hands. Along the way the pair meet different entities, had a few near misses, became closer and then, early in the book, they became lovers.
It was a slight 'Mills & Boon' type listen - nothing was ever too dark, too violent, too evil, too exciting, too sexy (well you get the picture) so if you like your vamp stories on the dark side this may disappoint you. But don't get me wrong, it was still a very enjoyable listen.
Worth a credit? Yes and I'm looking forward to the next instalment as this book was written in 2007 and the series is up to book 13 now so I hope Audible will continue to add this series to it's impressive library.
"WOO HOO 6 IS HERE BUT BOO HOO COZ I'VE FINISHED IT"
I could ramble and gush on and on about just how awesome the world-building, multi-layered, action-packed plot it was - which was riddled with funny, witty, gripping, entertaining, sexy, passionately, tender, torturous scenes. Then, as the hours tick by, you encounter some magical, scarred, interesting, sexy (I know I said it twice but it's sooo important), likeable, vengeful, evil or just plain loveable characters who all inhabit this listen and they will mesmerise, entertain and capture your imagination right from the first chapter....... okay okay I'm rambling and gushing now!
But basically there are just 3 really good reasons why you should download this book right now - and they are:-
1) It was written by Kresley Cole - a gifted and talented author
2) It's narrated by Robert Petkoff - simply THE best narrator that Audible's got
3) It's only $9.89 for 12 hours, yes under $10 for 12 heavenly hours of paranormal perfection
"SOUL SHARING & LOVE - MAKES IT A 'FOREVER DEAL'"
Good second instalment into the Nightwalker world - a love story with lots of supernaturals and their lore of sharing a human's body with a race of long dead Ancients who are each given the chance to come back every 100 years to continue the fight against the Templars who want to take over and control the Nightwalkers.
The last book finished as Jackson took the chance offered him when he died and now he happily shares his body with the very alpha Egyptian Pharaoh Menes who is pinning away for his Queen so, apart from protecting her, they try desperately to convince Marissa (a psychiatrist and someone Jackson had been drooling over) to allow her body to be shared with the deity.
JF builds and explains the Nightwalker world and what they can and can't do and we learn, along with Marissa, the longing that Menes and Jackson have for her to say yes to their heartfelt proposal. However, Jackson wants to seduce her into it (and he does a mighty fine job too) but Menes wants to be more forceful. There's romance, passion, excitement, gargoyles that come to life, action, sex (not too graphic), sub plots and a powerful evil entity has been released so the plot is building up to eventually be cataclysmic.
Worth a credit? Yes, any paranormal romance lover should enjoy the heartfelt decision that Marissa has to make. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait til early next year for book 3 Forsaken - Leo's story (boo hoo).
