"I really tried to like it but........"
Again, I just couldn't get passed the narrator's voice which ruined the book for me - in fact I had it on double speed and then kept forwarding the chapters to get to the end partly also due to the fact that I couldn't warm to the female character's stupidity! The plus points were that I liked Delaney's character.
I've already downloaded the 3rd book so I suppose I'll have to give it a try - let's hope that one doesn't have the same theme that the previous 2 had namely weak, whiney, whinge women .
Worth the credit? - Naah, not in my opinion.
"5 STARS - 5 WORDS LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK"
Although Audible hasn't listed it yet this is book 5 of The Highland Pleasures series and phew ..... what a book it was.
You have a very damaged Highlander - in walks Elliot who was mentally and physically tortured in India and who has returned home to the Highlands to try to stop the wedding of his childhood sweetheart however he is barely but desperately clinging on to his sanity. Juliana is about to be married but her heart has really always belonged to her childhood sweetheart Elliot - then fate steps in and gives the two another chance.
If you're a historical romance lover then this book will move you, excite you, sadden you, thrill you .... but above all, in the end it will give you that 'Ahhhhhhhh' feeling that comes after finishing a book that has ticked each and every box. This plot has passion, romance, sex, kilts, drama, funny moments, sad times, a couple of sub plots but above all there's a broken man clawing his way back to life and a woman willing to help him.
This could easily be a stand alone listen but the others in this series have each been a really great listen as JA's brilliant writing brings to life her fantastic characters and, as you mentally play each scene, you too will be drawn into a bygone era.
Worth a credit? Well that's a billowing YES across a clear blue sky.
"A TRULY GREAT ROYAL PARANORMAL ROMANCE"
These books are like watching a TV chef but with the sound off and they're creating something wonderful but you've got no idea what it is or what the next ingredient is, or what's going to happen next or what it's eventually going to be - all you can do is just enjoy the picture, suck up the entertainment factor, hold on and wait for the eventual outcome.
There are so many different supernaturals involved in these riveting plots that centre around the 13 Kings all trying to find and keep hold of the one woman that can become their Queens. There's thrills, romance, hot alpha Kings, a little sex and plenty of "well I didn't see that one coming" moments.
They're not really stand alone books so start at the beginning and let Antony Ferguson whisk you away to la la land.
Worth a credit? If you're a paranormal romance fan you should be jumping on this series - so it's a YES from me and I'm looking forward to the next one - The Goblin King and I realise that this series is going to cost me at least 13 credits and, so far, I'm quite happy to do so.
"A 3.5 STAR LISTEN - ENJOYABLE BUT NOT HER BEST"
At the start of this I was quite enjoying it, as I had done with all the previous books in the series, but sadly it soon became a bit repetitive and I slowly became disinterested with the characters and the outcome then halfway through it picked up again.
It was a totally implausible cheesy plot but, as with a lot of these types of books, it had it's good parts and so it was also hot, entertaining and enjoyable about memories, forgiveness and fresh starts.
That is apart from my 2 main eye-rolling bugs - 1) Del's initial and continual mental insecurities of Tyler and then Tyler's mental anguish of how can he show her he's changed over and over and over again. Then 2) Del - why didn't she initially find a way to contact him after 'that night' (no spoilers here) and one minute she was so strong and clever then the next minute she did stupid stupid things and needed Tyler to help her out. (But I guess if it was written my way it would all of been over by page 50 !!).
Worth a credit? It was a yes - no - yes listen but if you've listened to the others in the series then why stop now and I guess it's a YES from me.
"WELL.... THE CHASE BROTHERS DON'T NEED TO CHASE ME"
We're off to a good start to this new Chase Brothers series - a contemporary, sweet romance with four drool worthy hunky handsome brothers who can always get their pick of A list girls and they all live in small town America.
This one is Kyle's story who's no tough alpha male type but he is a passionate, caring, thoughtful, honourable and he is very protective over the lady who has caught his eye - Maggie but unfortunately she has a real inferiority complex due to her upbringing and doesn't feel worthy of him. Added to that there's trauma and tension as he's being pursued by some nasty bitchy types and she is being stalked by an ex boyfriend and things get far worse before they can get better for the pair.
It also had a few eye rolling cheesy bits but hey we all know that sadly it's only fiction but it was a heart warming romance that was sexy but definitely not erotica, with some good supporting characters who all have their say and input into the couple's romance but thankfully this is one where the downtrodden underdog finally gets her man.
Worth a credit? Yes and I'm ready, willing and anticipating spending my credits on the other 3 stories.
"GREAT LISTEN - IT KEPT ME SMILING THROUGHOUT"
Now hold on because I'm going to gush a little here.... this was such a fun listen with lol hilarious bits (especially with the cat). It was also an entertaining and romantic listen that had that 'feel good factor' and, as the sexual chemistry kept building between H/H, it got even more so. It had a dreamy 6 pack handsome hero and a good supporting cast of characters that added another dynamic to the storyline as we hear what all the texts say as they fly between each of the six characters.
I hadn't heard of this author before but I will definitely be looking out for any of her future books.
Worth a credit? The hours of listening pleasure this brings you makes this a very credit-worthy listen - so, in my book, that's a YES.
"GOOD PAR/ROMANCE BUT IT'S STILL A BIT CONFUSING"
This new series is getting better, I have not read or listened to any of her previous series of books giving the backgrounds and histories of The Darkyn or The Kyndred which is VERY frustrating because you don't know the who, what's and whys.
This was a sweet romance but it was one of those frustrating listens that has you shouting "just hurry up and tell him/her that you love them). Plenty of supernatural characters from the previous book get involved in a parallel plot which was very exciting and thrilling. Overall it was a very enjoyable paranormal listen that is action packed and romantic that has a couple of sexy hot bits but I may be losing the battle to keep up with all the 'entities' mentioned and what they have already done, can, are or are planning to do. I feel like I've walked into a really good film but it's already over halfway through and I'm lost.
Worth a credit? It was well written, emotional, action packed along with a nail-bitting doomed romance - so I guess it was but I just wished I could have listened to the whole series. I will however, persevere in the hope that book 3 will shed more light on the series.
"DOUBLE TIME BUT NOT DOUBLE THE ENJOYMENT FACTOR"
If you've listened to any of the other Sinners books then you already know that they are a H H HOT listen.
This has tormented souls, denial, the usual M/F M/F/M but it also has some very erotic M/M action so if you're not really into that sort of action then pass on this book. I didn't really connect with the story as much as I did with the others perhaps because there was too much sex and not enough feelings to their romance and everything just happened so quickly.
There wasn't much interaction with the other band members either which previously brought this series to life and made it more 'brotherly' and humorous.
Worth a credit? Yes, as I'm really into all the band members and can't wait until Eric (Sticks) finally gets his turn at romance but unfortunately I don't think that wlil be until Aug/Sept.
"STEP BACK IN TIME & PREPARE TO BE CAPTURED BY THIS"
Phew - well I've just finished this harrowing Highland tale that tells of the darkest of cruelty and torment but also tells of the joy of redemption along with salvation as the acts of tenderness and forgiveness eventually brings healing and the deepest of love.
Maya Banks never fails in her role as an author to deliver to her fans a book that captivates you from the first chapter until the last and within those chapters she packs them full with great characters and conjures a story that is tragic, heartwarming, tender and sooo romantic. They never fail to reach your heart and you just know that this will be one you could easily revisit and will never forget because, for a short while, you lived amongst these Highland characters and felt their anguish, anger, torment, pleasure and passion.
The narrator did a great job too in breathing life and emotion to each of the characters and the situations that they found themselves in.
Worth a credit? Well, as long as Maya keeps writing these wonderful books then I'll happily keep buying them and then long for the next.... so I guess that's a big fat YES.
"GET YOUR HOT TICKET NOW ON THE SINNERS TOUR BUS"
I could go on about how sexy, vulnerable and loveable the characters are or about how very very hot the plot was and I could add that it was filled with surprises, shocks, thrills, highs and lows, laughs, and funny one liners. All this was put together seamlessly by a gifted author then brought magically to life by the many voices of the narrator which will have you believing you are there sharing and caring about all the Sinners band members and their families.
But all I will say is press the 'Add To Cart' button now, do whatever you do whilst listening and enjoy.
"VERY NICE SELECTION BY SOME WELL-KNOWN AUTHORS"
If you're into short stories (as I am sometimes) then you can't go wrong with this selection of novellas which included A. Ivy's Sentinels 0.5 prequel and D.Duvall's Immortal Guardians 3.5.
They are each entertaining and enjoyable to any paranormal listener and it gives you a taste of authors you may not have listened to before. Some are more thrilling and some are more romantic and I liked them all but the last one - it was snappy and quick unfortunately there was no real romance until the end. They are filled with characters that will whisk you away to the supernatural world and show you their realms.
Worth a credit? Yes - but only if you like short stories that fly bye.
