I think when we listen to these FICTIONAL, historical romances there are 2 categories of listeners - 1. the listener that want's everything researched, researched, researched and then verified (absolutely nothing wrong with that if that's what you like), and 2. the listener who just want's a fanciful romance that's pure escapism and who wants just a bit of enjoyable fun to pass the time whilst doing a particularly dull chore or task. I think this is why this book is getting such varied reviews and I sadly, fall into the 2nd category - so I will give my review based on my own personal tastes.
I found this to be thoroughly enjoyable, touching, funny, sweet and romantic and it has some great characters too that you can't help but empathise with - handsome penniless Rake and a deaf rich but modest heiress. There is an evil villain who had 'allegedly' raped a servant of 13/14 and done some 'unmentionable' acts but, as with all these types of books, he gets 'dealt with'. Great narration by Ms. Landor too.
Worth a credit? If you fall in category 2 then - YES absolutely - but for $9.79 for nearly 11hrs I would just buy it, save your credit and spend it on a more expensive listen.
Firstly, although I haven't listened to them, this Biker series should follow the Dream Man Series and had I of known this I would definitely have listened to those first as characters etc., were mentioned that had me a bit lost. But nevertheless, and despite this, it was an AWESOME listen.
Shy, a swoon-worthy sex God and babe magnet from the Chaos MC has had enough of all his brothers looking after the beautiful, smart and untouchable Tabby, the daughter of Chaos' President, and teaches her the hard harsh lessons of life that will, unfortunately, come back to haunt him one day. Tabby has had a crush on Shy since she was 16 but now at 19, he shocks her and rocks her world so much that she changes, settles down and is finally happy that is..... until tragedy strikes.
This very touching, gripping, emotional, passionate, sad, sexy, heartbreaking and riveting listen spans 3 years in the lives of bikers their friends and lovers and it takes a very talented author to transport you into becoming a willing bystander as all the exciting drama, loveable characters, brilliant dialogue and vivid imagery captivates, enthrals and entertains you.
Worth a credit? It's a romantic story of growth, forgiveness, acceptance and love where the scenes will have you sympathising, sighing, clapping, crying and eventually grinning and smiling - so a credit very well spent.
Another gritty, raw and emotional book centred around the rough members of the Hell's Horsemen MC and they're mean, imperfect, damaged, foul-mouthed, sex crazed, broken and dangerous but, to their fellow brothers and the women and children they love, they can be obsessive, loyal, honest and true.
Tegan, the daughter of the Club's once resident whore, had a sweet natured childhood friend Cage, the son of the Club's President and, at 8 she had a crush on him, then by 16 it grew into undying love.... that is until he took her virginity then broke her heart and she's been angry at him, and life, ever since. Meeting handsome and drool-worthy Cage again brought back bad memories she'd rather forget but he's fed up of all the endless, faceless, nameless 'action' he's been getting and craves something but what? He soon finds out it's Tegan but he's got a lot of bridges to mend and she's got a lot of heartache, baggage, secrets and misunderstandings to get rid of before they can ever try to get their week by week HEA ending.
The sub plot of Dirty who's a broken, tortured, abused wreck of a man fighting and losing to demons from his childhood, comes to the aid of Ellie and their lives are challenged in more ways than one.... and someone's got to be 'put in the ground' because of it. This touching, tender and volatile secondary love story nearly stole the show.
This is another shocking tough-love drama romance where the heroes can cheat, lie, kill and die there's also conflicts, heartbreaks, drugs, sex and anger in an ugly world but within that world love, laughter passion, tender hearts and beauty can also be found. Deuce played the bad guy in this book which I didn't like but there was a shock or two for his character. Plenty of characters from previous books make their appearances too.
Worth a credit? This listen certainly isn't for everyone - but I loved it and found it very credit-worthy.
Poor handsome Lykae Garreth was so bored with his life (women throwing themselves at him all the time) and wished for a challenge. Well, that's certainly what he got when he suddenly feels, smells, sees and tries to claim his mate - because Valkarie Lucia, being the best Archer in the Lore, doesn't want anything to do with Garreth because she's got terrible secrets along with good reasons why - one of which is that she's on a mission to save the Apocalypse from happening.
But devoted Garreth, the Scottish Wolf Prince, is out of control so can't, and won't, take no for an answer so he relentlessly chases Lucia around the world while watching, desiring, protecting, lusting but all the while patiently waiting for the chance to bite her and make her his. As the action-packed storyline finally brings them on the same boat their sizzling sexual chemistry ignites but the sexual tension is the least of their worries as unpleasant characters, creatures and events spoil their plans.... but they must endure and overcome challenges, devastation and heartache before salvation can be theirs.
This intense, riveting, sexy, humorous, emotional, gripping story, with it's witty dialogue, is just what you come to expect from the highly imaginative mind of Kresley Cole. She has delivered yet another IAD book that has a very enjoyable paranormal mystery with suspense, a passionate, tender, touching romance and then she populates it with a host of likeable, loveable and compelling characters like the Soothsayer Nucking Futs Nix who brings cryptic clues and zany humor just when it's needed.
Then, as if we're not spoilt enough, the narration is skilfully done by the talented voices of Robert Petkoff who magically brings to life the many characters, infuses them with a vast range of emotions and leaves the listener in awe and grateful for his part in transforming mere words into another amazing listen.
Woth a credit? This 12 hr adventure will have you elated, exasperated, devastated and captivated and all for under $10 - so there's no question that it's creditworthy but for the price I just bought it saving my credit for a more pricey listen.
This was my first taste into the Dragonfury series but it certainly won't be my last as I'm eagerly about to download all the previous books. Yes, it would have been an even better listen if I'd started at book 1 but hey I didn't and it was still a very enjoyable listen.
Who doesn't love drool-worthy Alpha Dragon shifter stories and this is so much more than just a romance as the talented author moves the good and evil Dragons around like a Chess game and you just don't know what her next move will be, but there's certainly a few surprises in store.
Wick is a complex character who's imprisoned by memories of a torturous past which outwardly makes him a fierce, feared but loyal member of the Nightfuries and he just hates to be touched. But that all changes while on his next mission - to rescue Jamison (J.J.), also a tortured, guilt ridden, vulnerable victim of circumstances, and he arrives just in time - however neither one was expecting fate to provide an 'Energy Fuse' bonding them together forever. Wick tries to fight the pull..... but we all know how that's going to end!
There's lots of action, a plot that's brimming with intrigue, snappy quick dialogue, plenty of interesting characters but I felt the sub plots took up a lot of the story rather than the romance. However, there were touching, intimate, tender scenes between the two fragile souls as they both learnt to trust, share secrets and open themselves up to the possibility of finally deserving love.
Worth a credit? Yes it would have been but it's a bargain at $7.34 for over 12 hours of listening pleasure so I saved my credit and bought it at an even better price when it was on sale - so I'm one happy purring pussycat.
When her late Father's erotica book gives her 'sweet dreams' beautiful 26 year old virgin, and budding romance writer Avis, feels her life is missing the experience of any carnal knowledge so sets about to swiftly rectify it. In walks the handsome, arrogant Earl of Selby - Banning Talbot - who blackmails and convinces Avis that he's more than 'up' for the challenge.
However, they've been enemies for years however it only takes one hot passionate kiss to ignite the embers of passion and so Spinster Avis agrees to a two week affair..... but she gets, and receives, much much more than she bargained for. So too does Banning, who needs a wife and thinks Avis would fit the job nicely but Avis, because of a tragic hurtful abusive past, never ever ever wants to marry even despite their sizzling chemistry. Then, as lust quickly turns into love, the eager Student captivates her Tutor, but the conflict begins when he tries to find out just why she keeps saying no to his marriage proposals.
This was a thoroughly entertaining listen that had a great plot, humor, twists, lots of likeable characters, a duel, one Mr. Nasty and one Miss Devious but there's conflicts along with the passion, desire, sex, and character building as Avis and Banning eventually learn to share their secrets in order to move on to the HEA ending that they both deserve and long for.
Worth a credit? It was a touching, tender tale that was descriptive and well-written - what more could you want from a Regency Romance. So YES, in my opinion, a very credit-worthy listen.
Well it's a tough job but someone's gotta do it - and it's down to 16th Century Druids Duncan and his brother Fin. The job, de-flowering Virgins at the Renaissance Faire before an evil Witch can Hubble Bubble herself into a lot of trouble which will end the Curse put on her.
Duncan's immediately drawn to Tara, a beautiful, strong, stubborn, modern-day, kind Virgin so he gives it his best shot to try to seduce her but binding vows once said can never be broken and, before she realises it, he's whisked her away through time but, unfortunately for Duncan, she's anything but happy about it. Yes, he's a bonny kilt wearing broad Scotsman but she's left her family and friends behind and there's no indoor plumbing, heating, electric or modern medicines AND she has to wear dresses!! (Mmmm what or who would you choose I wonder?).
It has it's predictable, cheesy and stupid 'don't do it' moments - but it's also an enjoyable, light, funny, touching time travel romance with magic, mayhem, danger, action, murder, humor, with great secondary characters, and a nice romance but very light sex scenes. This is a very addictive listen as Duncan and Tara's relationship is forced upon them both it then grows naturally (after a period of 'adjustment' for Tara) and, with the help of his loving family, their touching, tender feelings for each other eventually turn into love.
Worth a credit? A credit or on sale for cash, it's an easy light listen, yes I would have preferred a little more 'heat' but, as Tara realised, you just can't have everything.
BEWARE this is no Fairytale but a heart wrenching, intense, emotional, frustrating, moving, roller-coaster ride about two forbidden lovers and the devastating results their stolen secret passion filled days and nights created.
Danielle, the young daughter of Deuce (badass Alpha President of the Hell's Horsemen MC Club) fell in lust on her Prom Night then in love, with Ripper (her Dad's Sergeant) who was scarred both inside and out, bitter, broken and much older than Danielle, so they just knew it wasn't going to be a very pretty ending. As their passion ignites, love grows but so too does the terrible shame and guilt Ripper feels so he takes the only path he can to free Danielle from the biker life she would have with him..... but at a devastating cost.
Yes this is raw, gritty, violent, shocking, dirty and toxic but it's also moving, touching, tender and beautiful too and there's never a dull moment in this dramatic storyline that goes from present-day and then suddenly takes you back 3 years in the past to share in the blossoming relationship, the unfurling of a delicate sexy young love, to the pain-filled, sorrowful, vivid history of a love gone bad.
We also get to witness Deuce and Eva's broken relationship as it spirals out of control after what Frankie did to everyone in book 1.
Worth a credit? If you haven't already encountered the Hell's Horsemen Bikers and this exciting, awesome, well-written amazing love story, with it's rich array of characters and great world-building scenes, sounds like something you may like then start downloading this series now and then put a 'Do Not Disturb' sign round your neck and enjoy. So that folks, is a Hell Yeah.
Pheweee, what a brilliant, emotionally draining, sweet, passionate, sexy (but not graphic) tender, all consuming haunting love story this series has been and, in this final book, loose ends are tied, right choices were made, sins were finally forgiven, hopes were realised and an unconditional love provided the ultimate redemption.
Gabriel and Julia's love affair started when she was just 17 however Gabriel was 27, and also her Professor, so it was a forbidden affair that spans 8 years but what an emotionally charged journey it's been as the devoted couple's many obstacles were each painstakingly faced and overcome one by one. You can't help but fall in love with the sexy handsome Professor and respect Julia and all the choices she makes to hold on to a love like no other.
Sylvan Reynard's style of writing is simply awesome with plot twists, surprises, a cast of likeable, loveable, sad, nasty and interesting characters and the pages are packed full of romantic verses, phrases and paragraphs that are almost poetic in nature. There are a lot of sexually charged scenes but they're light on detail so the story isn't driven by one sex scene after another but by the subtle suggestive words used to portray their desire, longing, lust and deep love and respect for each other.
Worth a credit? You just can't put a price on a trilogy like this whose characters will stay with you long after the last word, of the last book, is finally revealed and you have to say a sad farewell to characters that have entertained, enthralled, angered, saddened and eventually grown to become people you'd like to add to your Address Book.
Every so often I find myself drawn to a Lorelei James, Sarah McCarty book (or similar great authors from this particular genre) and woah, wee hee and ding ding this listen sure doesn't disappoint as you can clearly visualise all the drool-worthy men wearing chaps, cowboy hats, boots and spurs.
City girl Channing is running away from an overbearing dictatorial family and wants adventure so has hooked up doing the Rodeo Circuits and it's there that she meets tough talking, sexy and hot, Ultra Alpha Cowboy Cole who makes her a proposition that involves his 2 other, equally hot, travelling partners Edgar and Trevor and the rest, they say, is history.
This listen has a good plot, great characters who have sizzling chemistry and the sex isn't just hot..... it's nuclear. There's Dom/sub, light bondage, M/F, M/F/M and M/M action which was red hot but, at times, it was also loving as the four of them tried to sort out and come to terms with their feelings for one another. It also give some insight to the trial, tribulations and heartaches of the Rodeo scene which soon separates the men from the boys.
However, IMHO, I thought it needed another chapter or an Epilogue to wrap things up nicely but maybe, further into this series, we will learn more of the couple's HEA ending from all the other McKay siblings.
Worth a credit? It's a heart-stopping, jaw dropping, raunchy erotica romance which gets it's HEA but just not for all involved. It would have been worth a credit but my $10 rule applied and I saved my credit for a more expensive, but maybe not as star-worthy, listen
Phew, what a rollercoaster of emotions this riveting listen brings forth as their tragic, heartbreaking but wonderful love story continues 5 days after book 1 (This Man) ended and, after many tears are shed heartbroken Ava gets an urgent plea to help handsome playboy Jesse and the hoped for reconciliation may thankfully be at hand.
As Jesse's obsession and need for Ava continues there are highs and lows but you know it's a very unhealthy relationship that's going to come crashing down on them at some point and when it does it was raw, painful and spectacular as Jesse finally breaks and hits the 'self destruct' button. When Jesse's dark secrets and weaknesses are revealed you find yourself torn between hating what he's become, and done, whilst loving and feeling so desperately sorry for him and the intense heartache Ava must feel to take such dramatic steps to hold on to a profound and powerful love like no other.
This is a very well written, intense, erotic, passionate, overwhelming love story of two people's corrupted, all consuming, yet beautiful, bond and the torturous tumultuous life it brings them both. There are a few sub plots, lots of sex and a few twists and surprises. But the beauty and joy of this story are the feelings that Jesse and Ava have for each other that make them hold on to and fight for each other - together with the sacrifice, growth and surrender each of them painfully endures.
Worth a credit? It's 19 hours of pure undiluted pleasure that will totally captivate, consume, enthrall, entertain, exhaust and engross you in the lives of two loveable characters who are deeply in love and are desperately trying to hold on to it despite all the odds. It's not a stand alone book (get all their romance history first) but this trilogy is heading to be absolutely the best romances I've got in my large and ever growing library so it won't come as any shock when I say a very, very, very creditworthy listen and all that's left to say is..... I NEED NEED NEED BOOK 3 This Man Confessed.
