The story was captivating, the narrators fit the characters well. The story has some vulgarity that, when spoken in your ear feels more crude than if you had read it in the book.

The story is timeless. This particular version being read by the author was intriguing to me. However I am disappointed with the narration. The author has a lisp (as if her mouth is full of saliva constantly) Which you get used to after a while, however her voice inflection for some of the characters is extremely grating to me. Could be a personal thing - so listen carefully to the sample before you decide if this copy is right for you.

I absolutely adore this narrators ability to change her voice just enough to help you identify more deeply with the characters.

I will be buying more books read by this narrator!

The book goes w/out saying. A classic must read that will not disappoint.

Not quite sure how this made a most popular list. Hearing history firsthand was interesting. It was just so painful to listen to the neglect Mr. McCourt endured, and to hear the drunken waste that his father imparted to his life over and over and over again - well I'd rather have a root canal.

It wasn't all bad, but just slow and repetitive - but it was a memoir so that was his life. Just hard to stay involved at times. Other times - hillarious and completely captivating.

So if you're in the mood for a schizophrenic listen, then this is your book.

This audiobook was very captivating. Although a little difficult to grasp who all the characters were at first, after a bit of listening you'll catch on. I'm more visual so had I been reading the written word I don't think following the character line would have been as confusing - but still did not detract from the enjoyment of this perky novel.
