Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

Beautiful Creatures started out promisingly. However, the plot became very predictable, and the story began to drag toward the middle and end. Also, the cloying "16 Moons" song was like fingernails on a chalkboard by the time I reached the third part of the book. Beautiful Creatures was okay, but I won't be bothering with the sequels. Maybe I would have liked it better if I would have read it myself rather than listened to the audio book.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

I really enjoyed this book -- There were many times that I laughed out loud. Amanda Ronconi does a fantastic job portraying the various characters in the novel. Great audio book -- it made me look forward to my commute each day!
