This story was just great. The narraters did a fabulous job, made the characters very beleivable with the accents. I just couldn't stop listening, it really had me enthralled, but i must say i was a little dissappointed with the ending, but mostly just because I wanted to know what happened further down the track, to me it seemed to end quite suddenly. But all in all a great book, very highly recomended.

Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

    Story
What did you love best about Helter Skelter?

Wow, this story (and the way it was written and performed) blew me away. I can't believe that it actually happened.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Helter Skelter?

The description of the court cases, I found really interesting. I expected these sections to be really dry reading, but I couldn't put it down

What about Scott Brick???s performance did you like?

He had the perfect voice for this. No nonsense, but not dry and boring, he made the story come to life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this for true crime readers, but also its just a cracking story, disturbing yes, weird yes, but the way it is written gets you in and doesn't let go, even when it ends!

This is the first Di Morrisey book that I have listened to and it certainly wont be the last. The storey had me hooked from the beginning, I couldn't predict what was going to happen and I found it thoroughly enjoyable to listen too. No in depth thinking or anything for me, but just a nice book with a great storyline. The narration was good, I liked the different voices etc, but sometimes the 'put on' aboriginal accents and the high pitched New Zealand accent got a little irritating. This did not detract from the book though, and I would still listen to a book by this narrator again.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

I found the beginning a little hard to get into, but once i had listened to it a while the characters really began to develop and the story had me hooked. Great Book!

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

While I did enjoy parts of this (and it was only 9.95!) I found that it seemed to jump whole sections. I felt like they fell in love in an instant, there was no sort of lead up to it, it was just like they were instantly into the full on relationship? I didn't mind the details about the searches, and dog training, but i am a dog lover so found it interesting. I guess i just felt like the story and the characters were a little shallow and predictable

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

I laughed, I cried and I absolutely loved this book. As the owner of a very old dog it certainly pulled at the heartstrings, but was in short a lovely view of a dogs life. Highly recomended.
