"EPIC!!!"
Best damn series I've got my hands on since I can remember. A no bullshit badass with enough going on around him to keep my headphones glued in my ears for days, sleep is not an option. Thanks to the author for the mind blowing entertainment, and thanks to the narrator who made this audiobook come alive in a way nobody else could have.
"Should have read it"
I read the first two, and when I tried listening to this one I couldn't help but notice that the voice of the dragon was narrated by a man who spends his spare time eating glass. The dragon voices are the most annoying, overplayed, obnoxious, embarrassingly ridiculous nonsense I've ever heard. Aside from that, it was great =)
"Fast paced and fun"
Another fast paced fun book. There's been a couple books in the series that turned up the drama and turned down the action. This aint one of 'em.
"Read this series!"
There is nothing to complain about with this series. Each book is fun, fast paced, and engaging. The lore is fascinating, and the action and drama are constant. If you are awesome, you will love this series.
"Quick and fun"
This book was a quick and fun listen. Very entertaining, and that's what we're here for. =)
"Best book yet!"
I absolutely love this series. The first book was awesome, the second book was just slightly less awesome than the first, and this book blew the last two away, surpassing my highest expectations. And my expectations were high. I'm so satisfied I could begin a sentence with the word And without even caring about the grammatical consequences.
"Another excruciatingly boring fantasy book"
I'll start by saying that the narration was phenomenal, but let's look at the book itself. Whenever I listen to fantasy I pray it will be fast paced and engaging like the Sword of Truth series or the Warded Man series. Unfortunately, this is one of the more common fantasy books that go into such monotonous detail over every damn thing that even the portions of the book with action are hard to pay attention to. I realize there's somehow a big market for these overly descriptive books that lack any real progress in terms of story line content, so many people will love it. Character development was great, story line was practically non-existent. I obviously thought it was a journey of hope. Hope that something would happen. Yet nothing truly enthralling ever surfaced. There wasn't even a climax to the book that I could weed out. And reviews for the next book often mention that the first one was better. Holy mother of sh*t...
"Great for the average fantasy reader."
Most fantasy books I've picked up are some of the longest books of any genre, yet they have the smallest amount of story line movement and action. Most time is spent prattling on about the setting, environment, the character's history, their clothing, the way the breeze moves slowly through the air, causing the fine line of thread hanging unnoticed on his shirt to move slightly... Kill me. I get that for some people this descriptive process really helps them get absorbed in the book's journey, but I require a little more content and movement of the story line to keep my interest. I made it through the book, and it was entertaining, but good God it would be better if he'd thrown more action in there. If you want an epic, fast paced, emotional roller coaster of a fantasy I'd recommend Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series, which starts with Wizard's First Rule. Or if you want a fast paced urban fantasy it doesn't get any better than Sandman Slim or the Cassie Palmer series. If you're on the same page as me, avoid his other book The Way Of Kings as well. It was unbearably worse than this one in terms of slow pace.
"Narrator makes it impossible"
Story was probably even better than I realized, but the narrator made it hard to concentrate. His characters often sounded the same and he read the main character in Forrest Gump's voice. Not to mention he would read lines deadpan and monotone that began with, "he shouted" or "she screamed out". First time I've ever been truly distracted by a narrator. I'll be reading the second book in print form.
"Read it, love it, then get the next one"
Blew through this fast paced and entertaining series in no time. I loved the characters and never knew what to expect. Give this one a shot!
