Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

Thank goodness for Scott Brick. I've listened to too many narrators without that ZING. The book kept me up too late since I had to know what came next. It's a crazy story, different from what I've listened to in the last several months.

I don't do book reports but I would suggest giving this a try.

Not the best Crais book I've listened to but I didn't put it down. Had to get into this one before I actually enjoyed it but still thought the ending was a bit of a let-down. First book I've read with the bomb focus and that part I found interesting.

    Enjoyable, not a bad book.

Sheriff Walt Longmire had already rounded up a sizable posse of devoted readers when the A&E television series Longmire sent the Wyoming lawman’s popularity skyrocketing. Now, in Any Other Name, Walt is sinking into high-plains winter discontent when his former boss, Lucian Conally, asks him to take on a mercy case in an adjacent county. Detective Gerald Holman is dead and Lucian wants to know what drove his old friend to take his own life.

I've listened to all the Walt Longmire books and I've seen the TV series. The TV series just didn't cut it for me. Maybe it would have been better had I not heard George Guidall but The Cheyenne Nation played football and I'm under the impression that his character is a large man. And who could give a fair depiction of Vic on TV.

Like all the rest, I loved it.

But Odd has a knack for finding trouble no matter where he goes, and a killer is stalking the ancient holy halls. Odd is about to meet an enemy who eclipses any he has yet encountered.

Koontz can be so many things and for some reason I put the "Odd" series aside. Finally had a Netflix night and watched the first. Movies are seldom as good as the book in my experience but glad I did. Moved right on to Brother Odd and thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't know that I would have followed through had I not seen the movie. Gave me a better idea of the environment.

Alo Nudger, the St. Louis ex-cop is both the most normal of all fictional private eyes and the most surprising. He's got an uncertain stomach he doses with nonstop antacids; he doesn't like guns or violence; and since he doesn't feel any special affinity for what he does, from nosing into people's dirty laundry to confronting perps with the consequences of their misdeeds, and makes more than his share of mistakes, it's only natural that his business cards identify him in typographical error as a private defective.

When I got into this book all I could think of was how long before I gave up. Took about 30 or 45 minutes.

But when I got to thinking about the story line I realized it wasn't so bad, not up to the usual Lutz book but not a total dog. As much as I hate to berate a narrator, I think that's what makes the book such a downer. Lutz must have liked Bob Walter so maybe I should deduct a point. I'm sure Mr. Walter does a fine job with other books but for me, a total zip!

I saw some of the reviews, none good, but pig headed as I am still gave it a try since how bad could Lutz be?

I'd say spend your credit elsewhere.

I'm a Brad Thor fan but George Guidall just made the book better. The ending leaves me expecting part II. Harvath should know he'll never retire but now that there is a love interest I hope they go on as a team rather than leaving Harvath a loner. That would naturally push his intensity up notch after notch! And that could be more good reading.

    Good listen for me..

Tami Hoag, author of Dust to Dust, returns with "a definite winner," says Booklist. In a trailer in a Florida swamp, time is running out for Erin Seabright. A pawn in a kidnapper's terrifying game for a ransom no one can pay, her last hope is a washed-up ex-cop who has already lost it all - not once, but twice.

I wondered as I listened just how many people could relate to the horsey part. Maybe I underestimate the number and those who would pick up this particular book. I grew up riding so I followed that part easily. Had I not had that experience I would have moved on.

But in the rest of the book the characters fell like flies. Most of us can claim a dysfunctional family but this family re-defines dysfunctional. Some of it was downright funny, most of it was getting to know the characters so we would understand when they were murdered.

I'm really not sure I would recommend this but then again I've read much worse.

Frank Quinn is sure he is hunting for a madman: someone who is shooting young women in the heart, defiling their bodies, leaving only the torsos to be found. But in the concrete canyons of New York, this shocking serial murder case is turning into something very different. Struggling against a death trap closing in around her, Jill Clark has a powerful ally in Frank Quinn. But no one knows the true motives behind a rampage of cold-blooded murder or how much more terrifying this is going to get.

This murder story is definitely gross but details are sketchy for the most part, thank goodness. Typical killer with unresolved issues but different. This killer has issues for sure but plays it out a bit differently. And as usual, Lutz is still one of my favorites.

Lutz is one of my favorites and I love the Frank Quinn series. Quinn battles several issues in this one up to the end. Lose love, find love, lose love, find love. Detested by an unfounded charge of rape, more under-current. Not to mention the case at hand. Definitely worth the listen!

I loved the Vince Flynn character Mitch Rapp and waited for each new book. Now that this won't happen again I was amazed with this story because it had a similar flavor. Not a copy cat but a new direction it seemed for Thor. WOW! I got totally wound up in this one and hope it will come again. Scot Harvath had a new dimension for me and I'm just waiting for the next. Of course George Guidall enhanced the story so great combo.
