"Not a bad story, but way too long and repetitive"
What can I say, I really should have read the other reviews and taken a bit more notice. I read the preceding books in the series when they were first released, and I must say and advantage to printed books is that you can skip the bits that are repetitive and dull. I think that the three final books in this series could easily have been compressed into a single story.
Although I have memories of the early books being very good, the final "trilogy" set have been something of a disappointment. The characters are dreadfully one-dimensional, and Richard himself has become unbelievable, overly righteous and at times downright dull. And was it just me, or were all the "bad" characters fat and/or ugly brutes, and the "good" characters slim and attractive intellectuals? Please!
I also found the switch in narrators disconcerting - the narrator who did the first book was better, but by then I was sucked into the "but I just need to see how it ends" trap.
"Quirky and fun"
It's truly hard to find something a little bit different, and this was it. I listened to Automatic Detective and was impressed with it, too, so thought I'd try Monster. Such a sense of fun in the writing and story.
Pretty much did - kept walking around with it at work and plugging myself in whenever I had a spare minute or two. :)
"Wonderful stuff"
Very much enjoyed the book, am so impressed by Mary's story. Was recommended this audiobook from a podcast sponsored by Audible, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Loved the switch in accent and tone of voice when the story was passed between the two narrators. An incredible story narrated beautifully, and a pleasure to listen to.
"All I can say is, what took me so long"
ok, it's a really really long book... but I know I'll be listening to this again. Amazing story (can't believe I'm in my mid 30s and still hadn't read it), incredible twists and turns and subplots and just pure genius. The narrator was wonderful, gorgeous voice, and gave great life and complexity to each of the characters. Absolutely wonderful, hope you don't mind me adding to the long list of rave reviews :)
"Really good fun"
It started off a little slowly but developed into a highly enjoyable read. I'm a bit of a girly-romance junkie, and thought it was going to be predictable, but it was fun, surprising, and at times so hilariously funny I was VERY relieved to be listening to it at home rather than a bus or train, because I think I would have cried with the effort to not scream with laughter. Lots and lots of fun, will be looking for other books by this author, who intertwines great humour with some serious issues. Loved it.
"very good, but wish I'd known part of series"
I quite enjoyed this book, but I really wish I'd known it only begins the story! The character development was well done with the exception of Matthew, who I found a little too unrealistic, but it was fun nonetheless because let's face it, us girls love a ridiculously unrealistic romantic lead - romance *is* escapism after all ;) I'm assuming this is part of a series, although it isn't listed as such. Frustrating - I love wading through long series, but I prefer to know before I begin. Sort of spoiled an otherwise enjoyable listen, so I figured I'd review this to let people know (without spoilers) that this is just part one of a story. If this is all there is, I must say I'll be deeply disappointed.
"Original and fun"
Thoroughly enjoyed the book - it's a rare thing to come across such an original idea so well executed. Not your average or expected ending, which I found delightful in itself. I'd say that I'll definitely listen to this one again!

"Amazing, thoroughly brilliant."
Absolutely amazing stuff. I could hardly believe how much I enjoyed this book. The narration was lively and enjoyable (adorable accents) and the story itself was brilliant. I really do enjoy Marian Keyes' portrayal of strong, smart and yet flawed women. I think that much of her brilliance lies in her ability to pull her reader in with humour, and then deliver her sucker punch. I also liked that it was a big fat long unabridged book - totally creditworthy! :)
