Eight-year-old Tessa Lee and her little brother, Travis, are left at a campground by their mother and her boyfriend, a crooked-nosed man named Goose. All the two children have is a tent, their bags of clothes, the firefly cloak they'd used for covers the night before, and a phone number printed in magic marker on Travis' back. Tessa Lee knows that her momma and Goose have skedaddled in a car with recently changed license plates. She just doesn't know why.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I probably wouldn't recommend this book

Has Firefly Cloak turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No, I wouldn't say so.

What does Jenna Lamia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love to listen to Jenna Lamia. Her childlike southern voice is perfect for the character of Tessa Lee and her interpretation of the dialogue really brings the charactor to life.

Do you think Firefly Cloak needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I'm not sure if it needs a follow-up but it certainly needed more of an ending. The book was an emotional roller-coaster and it seems like there was no real ending, almost like the allotted letter count had been used up so the abruptly story ended.

Something very strange -- and sinister -- is going on in the Russian woods at Borodino. In a place called Mrs. Ivanova's Charm School, young KGB agents are being taught by American POW's how to be model citizens of the USA. The Soviet goal -- to infiltrate the United States undetected. When an unsuspecting American tourist stumbles upon this secret, he sets in motion a CIA investigation that will reveal horrifying police state savagery and superpower treachery.

    Char says: "Incredibly Good"
    "Wonderful suspense book, Great narration!"
    Overall

This is a great book, suspensful and I loved the exotic setting. Demille has a talent for putting together facts and adding a twist so that his books leave us believing the story. Scott Brick, as always, does a great job.

Michelle Maxwell has just blown her future with the Secret Service. Against her instincts, she let a presidential candidate out of her sight to comfort a grieving widow. Then, behind closed doors, the politician whose safety was her responsibility vanished into thin air.

    John says: "Listen again"
    "Exciting book, love the narration."
    Overall

I loved listening to this book. Scott Brick always does a wonderful job and makes every book his own. My only complaint about this book is that, as the plot twisted, it seemed to get more and more unbelieveable. A little too far-fetched but all-in-all a good listen.

A survey of the quirks and quandaries of the English language, focusing on our strange and wonderful grammar. Why do we say "I am reading a catalog" instead of "I read a catalog"? Why do we say "do" at all? Is the way we speak a reflection of our cultural values? Delving into these provocative topics and more, Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue distills hundreds of years of fascinating lore into one lively history.

Mike says: "Great for casual linguists"
"Only for the advanced student of linguistics!"
    Overall

This book is much too technical for the average reader to get much out of. This stuck me as a thesis written to be read by experts. There were interesting parts but it lost me quickly!

  • Burning Angel: A Dave Robicheaux Novel

Dave Robicheaux, New Orleans detective, is puzzled when street hustler Sonny Boy Marsallus slips a Vietnam war diary into his hand. Soon old debts and ancient burial sites create a web of intrigue linking Iberia Parish to more dangerous territory than Dave can handle.

Joseph says: "Good Burke novel, good narration."
"What a difference a narrator can make!"
    Overall

Will Patton reading James Lee Burke makes you see the spanish moss and smell the bougainvillea. Mike Hammer takes all the magic out of it. I had to repeatedly rewind just to understand the words. All the charactors seemed to speak in the same lack-luster voice. I gave up listening after the first hour. Now, if re-recorded with Will Patton it would be worth a listen!
