When life seems pointless to Norton, he accepts the position of Incarnation of Time. With the other incarnations - Death, Fate, War, and Nature - distracting him, Satan springs a cunning trap. Bearing an Hourglass is a fascinating, richly imagined tale that reaches beyond genre conventions. Science-fiction/fantasy legend Piers Anthony combines a gripping plot with a serious and thought-providing study of good and evil.

Time is a very powerful incarnation but he has a very difficult job. I enjoyed this book, however, compared to the other incarnation books, this is one of my least favorites. Pierce Anthony is well known for his fantasy and science fiction writing. I think because this was the 2nd book of the series, he had to compromise with the publishers to push such an important series by including what he is best known for. It fits into the story fairly well, but it leaves the character as a whole less developed than the other characters.

When the man Niobe loves is shot, she wants revenge. Her only chance is to accept a challenge to solve a maze of riddles devised by Satan himself. But Niobe's strength is her beauty, not her intelligence, and the fate of the human race hangs in the balance. Can she outwit Satan at his own game, or has her failure already been woven into the very Tapestry of Fate?

Cliff says: "Not as good as the first two."

By this book, the other 3 have brought on some very inter connected story lines that seem to become more clear by this point. Fate is interwoven within all elements of the tapestry of life.. Never underestimate what fate can accomplish.

In this, the first novel of the best-selling Incarnations of Immortality series, Piers Anthony combines a deeply moving examination of the meaning of life and death with a gripping story of romance and loyalty, all set in a world of magic and technical wizardry.

The incarnations series by Pierce Anthony is incredible. In this book ,he really explores the concept of death and how it is nothing to be feared but can be a very compassionate character.

First published in 1865, these endearing tales of an imaginative child's dream world by Lewis Carroll, pen name for Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, are written with charming simplicity. While delighting children with a heroine who represents their own thoughts and feelings about growing up, the tale is appreciated by adults as a gentle satire on education, politics, literature, and Victorian life in general.
