I was excited to listen to this audiobook because it was compared to one of my favorite books, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Overall, I was dissappointed in the book and honestly wished I would have chosen something else.
The story just wasn't that interesting or engaging in my opinion. A husband cheats on his wife with a younger woman. He leaves his wife for her and wants to keep all of his money and assets. Then his betrayed wife wants to kill him. Wow...Never heard that before...
There were also some holes in the story that bothered me... For example, one of Jodi's good friends tells her that she will help arrange to have her husband killed, but just ends up stealing money from her and never speaks to Jodi again?? There has to be more to the story there right?? Not in this book apparently.
Even though I didn't love the book, I thought the narrators performances were solid. I loved the vulnerablity Karen White showed in her charater. It was great. Donald Corren was also very good. I hated this character in the book, but Donald Corren helped me enjoy depising him.
I wouldn't mind having those 8 hours back for a more interesting story...
It's tough to know what to say that hasn't already been said. Everyone who reads/listens to this book loves it and once you have you'll know why. It is smart, funny, heartbreaking and beautiful. Kate Rudd is an absolutely amazing narrator. Her acting was superb and her comic timing was spot on. I will definitely be looking for more of her work in the future.
Thank you John Green for writing this wonderful book!
I did not read the print version, so I really couldn't say. I absolutely loved and the audio edition though!!
Sigh... I have been trying to think of what to write without including a spoiler and I can't. So I'll just say this...Fragments is awesome and if you enjoyed Partials (book 1) you'll love this one even more. Superior Series!!
I loved the character Afa and really enjoyed the scenes he was in.
I laughed and cried many times while listening to this book. I enjoyed the first book in the series and this book is even better! I cared so much and was invested in several of the characters in this book (and series). I was very moved by their story and the choices they made.
I am waiting with baited breath for Book 3! March 2014 can't come soon enough...
Engaging, Entertaining, A-Must-Listen
Keira was great! She is strong, smart, kind and brave. I loved going on this journey with her...
She is an excellent narrator and really does a great job with both male and female charaters. Her storytelling is seemless. I really couldn't pick just one.
A lot of the book is about the main character Keira and her friends searching (at all costs) for a cure for RM, a deadly disease that is killing every baby born for the past 11 years. The writing was amazing and I was quickly invested in the characters and their story. I listen to audiobooks a lot because I love to read and I am too busy to sit down and read an actual book as often as I would like. There were several times while I was listening to this and was so taken with the story that I literally had to stop what I was doing and just sit down and listen. Very well written and performed. It was a truly enjoyable start to finish...
I loved this audiobook so much I couldn't wait to listen to the next one in the series...and I didn't. Downloaded Fragments right away!! :)
If you are looking for a fun, easy read (listen) and enjoy post apocalyptic type stories then "In the After" is a great choice.
As a stand alone book, I found the ending disappointing. I wanted more. I'm hoping that this book planned to be or turns into a series. I would love to know what is in store for Amy next. It didn't feel complete to me...
I actually purchased this audiobook because Julia Whelan was the narrator. I have listened to other audiobooks that she has performed and she is an amazing storyteller. I wanted to listen to more of her work and that is how I found this book. If you haven't had the opportunity to listen to Julia Whelan you should. She is awesome!!
Stock up on candy bars, canned ravioli and instant coffee! You never know;)
I really enjoyed this book. Its a fun, easy read (listen) and an interesting story. I think it is an excellent debut novel.
Great Story, Performances, and Suspense
Yes, there were many twists and turns throughout the story. Loved it!
I loved Amy. She was a very intriguing character
Hmmm. I am not sure what I can share without giving anything away... The book kept me on the edge of my seat and I really enjoyed how dark and twisted the story got as it moved along...
Highly recommend this audiobook. The narration and story are great!!
