Walker & Daughter is Georgia Walker's little yarn shop, tucked into a quiet storefront on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The Friday Night Knitting Club is the ad hoc creation of some of Georgia's regulars, who stroll into the shop looking for tips on knitting and end up finding much, much more. Once a week, they gather to work on their latest projects and to chat - and occasionally clash - over their stories of love, life, and everything in between.

I purchased this book because Julia Roberts is producing this movie and is staring as the main character, Georgia Walker. (in 2008) And I am a big fan of hers...

I wasn't crazy about the narrator. The way she narrated, it make the character's sound old and stuffy. So I didn't quite relate to any of them. Also, the main character, Georgia was 38, but the way the author wrote about her, she sounded much older. Because I am also 38, I felt like she made Georgia sound like a great aunt.

If you are just expecting to find a book to keep you midly entertained then go for it. Because I purchase these books to be used for when I am excercising, I really like these books that are so great, I can't stop listening to it, and therefore, I excerise longer. This just wasn't one of these books.

Runaway, supermodel, and actress Carre Otis found herself in the public eye from a very tender age. Millions of people gazed at provocative images of her in magazine and billboard ads, as well as in features on the pages of Playboy and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. By the time she was twenty, they had also seen her on posters for the controversial film Wild Orchid, with Mickey Rourke.

I like that she narrated it. In the beginning, I was just saying, dear god, this girl was so stupid and kept getting herself into so much trouble. But after a while, I began to see that she just wasn't brought up normally. She wasn't giving the tools to deal with life.
It was an interesting story. And in the end, I found her to be one tough cookie.

I actually purchased it over a year ago but somehow never started it.
In the very beginning since it was based on 6 different people, it was hard to follow but very quickly I was able to. Very good character structure and a very interesting story.

I liked the narrator, not bad. I also like that there were 4 storylines, so I didn't get bored. Very easy to follow. Not rocket science, but if you want to turn off your brain for a while, this is good.

This Is Where We Live tells the story of Claudia and Jeremy, a young married couple (she’s an aspiring filmmaker, he’s an indie musician) who are on the verge of making it. Her first film was a sensation at Sundance and is about to have its theatrical release; he’s assembled a new band and is a few songs shy of an album. But a series of seismic events deal a crushing blow to their dreams.

I didn't like the male narrator, I would of preferred the female to do the whole book. I also hated the male character, he was weak and spinless. I couldn't feel for him at all.

Her marriage challenged by an insane, irresistible love affair, Julie decides to leave town and immerse herself in a new obsession: butchery. She finds her way to Fleischer's, a butcher shop where she buries herself in the details of food. She learns how to break down a side of beef and French a rack of ribs--tough, physical work that only sometimes distracts her from thoughts of afternoon trysts.

    Julia says: "Not worth it!"
    "Interesting Read/Listen"
    Overall

Many of the reviews were very helpful to me. Julie Powell as the narrator, she did a good job. Heck it was her own story so I wouldn't of wanted some other narrator to do it.
It did take some really great courage for her to write about this/these experiences.
She was very honest and I give her credit for it, but I think she has come off very arrogant and selfish, by wanting her cake and eating it too.

They were young, brilliant, and bold. They set out to conquer the world. But the world had other plans for them. Best-selling author Susan Jane Gilman's new memoir is a hilarious and harrowing journey, a modern heart of darkness filled with Communist operatives, backpackers, and pancakes. In 1986, fresh out of college, Gilman and her friend Claire yearned to do something daring and original that did not involve getting a job.

Official Book Club Selection is Kathy Griffin unplugged, uncensored, and unafraid to dish about what really happens on the road, away from the cameras, and at the star party after the show. (It's also her big chance to score that coveted book club endorsement she's always wanted. Are you there, Oprah? It's me, Kathy.)
