Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. firm with 800 lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was 3 years away. He was a rising star with no time to waste, no time to stop, no time to toss a few coins into the cups of panhandlers. No time for a conscience. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Also available abridged.

Lawyer quits his job to work with the homeless. I couldn't continue past chapter nine. I found nothing fun in this book. It’s just about some high priced, successful lawyer with a ruined social life who decides to quit his job and work with the homeless. The book is a lot of useless rambling about a stupid lawyer that could have made a better difference by donating a portion of his income to the Goodwill, but instead decides to work in a soup kitchen. I’m quitting at chapter nine, but that’s what’s happened so far. I can’t continue because I’m bored silly.Ignore all the great reviews and avoid this book like the plague - you deserve better.

I enjoyed the book, but I would have enjoyed it more if it were shorter. Too much detail that did not contribute to the story watered down the excitement that could have been here. I kept listening because the writing was good. The length of the book reminds me of someone who was paid by the word. I will skip some of the others by this author.

Sometimes I just want a fun, action packed, exciting book. This book fit the bill. Loved it! The protagonist is a likable guy I can relate to. He doesn't necessarily want to hurt anybody, but things happen and people get hurt including the Grey Man. The book is peppered with an appropriate level of profanity and no awkward sexual scenes. The Grey Man is not overly macho as is the protagonist in the Jack Reacher series. This is exactly the type of story I want to listen to from time-to-time when I just want to relax or I'm out for a walk. Graphic violence, excellent narration, blazing guns, and no silly sex!

Tired of false promises about getting rich quickly, promises that lead to reckless decisions, the stepping stones to the poorhouse? How about trying something different? How about going for lasting wealth based on thirty-five years' worth of insights from Jim Cramer, a grizzled stock veteran and host of CNBC's Mad Money with Jim Cramer . . . How about getting rich carefully?

From Florida to Columbia and Panama, Doc traces their path, but a shadowy figure is following him - and the violence left in the wake of this individual is terrifying.

Book is okay. Not my favorite genre, a detective type story. The book starts out a very slow but gets better about halfway through. A few interesting characters, good location and description make to book tolerable. The narration was probably the best part. There are a few pauses, but not so long as to bother me. I probably won’t listen to other books in this series.

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: "You got the wrong guy". Then he says: "Get Reacher for me". And sure enough, from the world he lives in - no phone, no address, no commitments - ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. In Lee Child's astonishing thriller, Reacher's arrival will change everything - about a case that isn't what it seems, about lives tangled in baffling ways, about a killer who missed one shot - and by doing so gives Jack Reacher one shot at the truth.

I was a little skeptical about this book. Similar books, such as Lee Burke, Paterson, Baldacci and even some of Lee Childs books I have not enjoyed so much. Who knows, maybe it just has to do with a person’s mood at the time, or maybe it was just low expectations, but I enjoyed this book and will listen to more of the series. I found it to be good, distracting entertainment, just light reading for fun.

One of the most popular Fortune articles in many years was a cover story called "What It Takes to Be Great." Geoff Colvin offered new evidence that top performers in any field - from Tiger Woods and Winston Churchill to Warren Buffett and Jack Welch - are not determined by their inborn talents. Greatness doesn't come from DNA but from practice and perseverance honed over decades.

I enjoyed this book and found it to contain useful and inspiring information. How can you be all you can be? This book has the answer. It’s not magic, it’s hard work. The question not answered is where does the intrinsic motivation come from? I recommend this book because it has practical advice on how to improve whatever it is that you want to do better. This book has immediately helped motivate me to do more with the understanding that it will help me preform at a higher level. The book does not say where intrinsic motivation comes from but it did help increase mine. I wish I had read this when I was ten years old.

On a deserted mountain road in the Dominican Republic in 1960, three young women from a pious Catholic family were assassinated after visiting their husbands, who had been jailed as suspected rebel leaders. The Mirabal sisters, thus martyred, became mythical figures in their country, where they are known as Las Mariposas (the butterflies).

If you’ve read the other reviews you understand this is an account of life in the Dominican Republic. The narration is excellent. I enjoyed the voice and tone of the narrator. The language and accent was appropriate for me. I understand and speak Spanish, but it would be hard for me to write this review in Spanish. If you have an intermediate level or higher comprehension of Spanish the language in this book will be appropriate for you. The author provides a rich detail of description. I enjoyed this book and benefited from understand life from the sister’s point of view.

The book starts out a little slow, just daily life and such. I almost stopped listening but then it started to get more exciting once the sisters attended a party at the palace. From then on I enjoyed the story. It’s a story of struggle under a repressive government and ends in tragedy.

Things were bad. It is important to understand that what happened in Central America in the 1980s and earlier was worse, much worse. What’s important to take away from this book is the sister’s dedication in fighting for freedom and justice. They are heroines; they sacrificed themselves with courage for the greater good of their country. This book honors their memory.

Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he e.ncounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber.
