I have not heard of Norton before. My first reaction to the book was disgust but I found it funny a few minutes later. Yes, the humor is very immature but none the less it made me laugh. A book that can make me laugh all the way through gets a good grade regardless of how vulgar the humor and it is very vulgar.
I was a little skeptical about this book. Similar books, such as Lee Burke, Paterson, Baldacci and even some of Lee Childs books I have not enjoyed so much. Who knows, maybe it just has to do with a person’s mood at the time, or maybe it was just low expectations, but I enjoyed this book and will listen to more of the series. I found it to be good, distracting entertainment, just light reading for fun.
I enjoyed this book and found it to contain useful and inspiring information. How can you be all you can be? This book has the answer. It’s not magic, it’s hard work. The question not answered is where does the intrinsic motivation come from? I recommend this book because it has practical advice on how to improve whatever it is that you want to do better. This book has immediately helped motivate me to do more with the understanding that it will help me preform at a higher level. The book does not say where intrinsic motivation comes from but it did help increase mine. I wish I had read this when I was ten years old.
If you’ve read the other reviews you understand this is an account of life in the Dominican Republic. The narration is excellent. I enjoyed the voice and tone of the narrator. The language and accent was appropriate for me. I understand and speak Spanish, but it would be hard for me to write this review in Spanish. If you have an intermediate level or higher comprehension of Spanish the language in this book will be appropriate for you. The author provides a rich detail of description. I enjoyed this book and benefited from understand life from the sister’s point of view.
The book starts out a little slow, just daily life and such. I almost stopped listening but then it started to get more exciting once the sisters attended a party at the palace. From then on I enjoyed the story. It’s a story of struggle under a repressive government and ends in tragedy.
Things were bad. It is important to understand that what happened in Central America in the 1980s and earlier was worse, much worse. What’s important to take away from this book is the sister’s dedication in fighting for freedom and justice. They are heroines; they sacrificed themselves with courage for the greater good of their country. This book honors their memory.
I agree with Joan, this is an awesome book. It was a huge surprise to me that I liked it. This was unexpected pleasure. I only tried after reading after seeing so many good reviews. This is a true classic – stands the test of time.
A lot of good deal and description but a little lacking in excitement, the second half gets better. I didn't find this story captivating.
A lot of reviews mention the ending. I liked the ending, it had a redeeming quality and the author's end notes were helpful, keep listening. I enjoyed book two best, but if you enjoyed the first two books it's well worth finishing the series.
If you enjoyed Hunger Games you should get this book because it’s a great continuation of the story. The story kept me captivated. Best of the series!
I felt like I was taking a big risk with this book. I’ve never liked Shakespeare plays on TV and didn’t like reading them in high school. After reading the reviews and listening to the preview, I decided to risk a credit. Glad I did! This book features an excellent narration and a great, well written story. No boring moments, lots of detailed action and a bit of interesting history. This book is a rare gem!
Cold Vengeance was better, but if you enjoyed that how can you not finish the story with Two Graves. Not as good, but still entertaining and completes the story.
I enjoyed Cold Vengeance. They did a good job of presenting a book without crazy and imaginary monsters. I’m glad I took Rebecca’s advice and waited for the second part of this book to be published, Two Graves. This is the better half of a whole book, but you need both books to complete the story.
