"Complex, entertaining"
Robin Hobb again creates a complex series building the pieces of the world a bit at a time. Just as you start to lose interest another fascinating development comes along. I'd rate the story higher except that the transitions are awkward..... The reader is great with good voices, but seems to switch from one event to another without taking a breath. I'm moving on to the second book in the trilogy any way
"An excellent wrap up to a great story"
The Rain Wilds Chronicle finishes with this book bringing the entire life cycle of dragons into context. At times, as was true in Hobb's other tales, the coincidental encounters of characters is very predictable, and the end of the story wraps up a little suddenly. Even so, the conclusion is very satisfying without loose ends to leave the reader waiting for the next book. Anne Flosnik does a terrific performance!
"Nice quick listen waiting for next installment"
Read by a male voice with a convincing accent, this is a terrific short read to update Outlander fans on the events around Roger MacKenzie's story. Good entertainment while waiting for Diana Gabaldon to offer up the next installment in the Outlander series
"Superb Scottish thriller complete with the accent"
I loved the twists of political intrigue in telling of the detective work in cold cases set in Scotland. The narration brought joy to my ears having grown up with Scottish brogue in my home, but I admit that some might find it harder to listen.
"Fantastic Historic fiction"
Ken Follett continues strong in his new genre of historic fiction. Having done a great job of creating multiple families in Britain, America, Germany and Russia during the Fall of Giants, he picks up with the rising generation at WWII approaches. Although the happenstance of encounters among characters is sometime a little too convenient, the linkage of historic fact with compelling fiction is amazing. I hope he finishes the third book of the Trilogy!
John Lee's narration is just right for this story
"Charming piece of fantasy"
This tale beautifully describes a fantasy world of fairies and imps, good and evil.... and even some happily ever after. It even includes the late arrival of humanity and our blindness to the fantastic world. As usual, Davina Porter gives a great performance with pitch perfect accents and voices.
"For Dungoens and Dragons players"
I suppose that you'd love this if you are a long standing dungeons and Dragons player. Otherwise, it was fairly mediocre. Very long and extremely improbable fight scenes interrupt otherwise complex character development and plot..... to the point you lose track. I enjoyed the book, the reader was excellent, but I won't bother with the rest of the series
"Scott Turow at his absolute best"
Even though I remembered the twist at the end of Presumed Innocent well, I was completed surprised by the final outcome in this book. The various readers did the characters extremely well. This is a complex but ultimately very satisfying tale.
"Very "Un" Grisham"
I have enjoyed every John Grisham book I have read or listened to.... and this one is unlike any other. Not a lawyer on these scene. Instead it is a tale of 2 times. The story slips seamlessly from current day to events 30 year old. the history of baseball is so convincing I went to google to check the facts.... lots of them were accurate. This book is a very easy listen, brief and to the point, great story of life and tragedy with a thoroughly satisfying conclusion. Enjoy
"compelling"
In the category of "I couldn't put it down" this one fit the bill. I found it difficult to turn off the audio and go in to work every morning, and I found myself thinking about it during the day. Beautifully written, very well narrated and a compelling, if somewhat disturbing, story. Now that I have heard the book, I'll go see the movie. Meanwhile, I'm starting on Catching fire, the next book in the series, today
