In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October, 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world.

"An incredible story of sacrifice and hardship"

For anyone who is interested in Antarctic exploration, or the men who sailed the vastness of the seas and dared to try...
This is the book for you. It transcends the diaries, to go into an understanding of who they were, what they thought and felt, and how they survived in the harshest environment on Earth. Slow in spots, but more often riveting, it leaves nothing out and gives a very clear, and ultimately uplifting, narrative. spoken by the very talented Simon Prebble.
