"Very enjoyable."
I really need to get to Venice! Love this audiobook and enjoyed the narrator too. Surprised how much I enjoyed it - a nice change from her Guido Brunetti series.
"Great mystery - great setting."
Recommended. Strong writing, great narration, smart mysteries - I really enjoy this Mario Silva series, set in Brazil. Setting gives it some great "flavor!' - and it's hard to beat a great revenge novel. This quote says it well:
"Perfect Hatred is a perfect thriller. No one writes the cold glint of evil in bright sunlight the way Leighton Gage does. And there's enough evil here—and heroism, too—for three lesser books."
—Timothy Hallinan, Edgar-nominated author of the Poke Rafferty thrillers and the Junior Bender mysteries
"GREAT suspense, smart plot!"
Great pysch thriller! Poor Toby's been dealt a bad hand, but when he gets out of prison for two murders he doesn't remember committing, he expects to be able to start anew. Sorry to say, that's not going to happen...not when another girl ends up dead in this tiny town in Germany, and everyone assumes he's the guilty party. Small town thinking and small town secrets play large in this thriller, and you really can't wait to get to the end. I love Robert Fass' narration, and he does a great job on this police procedural. I don't want to say more and spoil it for anyone . . . !
"Great reminder of important things in life"
Yes, it's a good book to remind you to think about HOW you want to live and what kind of life you want to live. What do you want your legacy to be? Not preachy - though God is mentioned - more "inspiring." And there are exercises and meditations to do that are helpful, too. All in all, a great way to start the new year - or any day of the year.
Find Your Purpose!
I plan on listening to this every few months as a refresher!
"Great thrill ride - smart mystery!"
At the top for sure - this mystery/thriller is up there with any great mystery writer, and maybe even a touch better, as it's smarter, more layered. Super story, perfect narrator for the work.
Well obviously Rob, the main character. There are puzzles at every turn, and he manages to somehow figure them all out without going nuts. He's just a regular guy, suddenly in the midst of unusal circumstances with something personal at stake.
Kind of cool that it's set on Isle of Man....which I had to look up on a map. It's a self-contained little island, which lends itself to being an important "character" in this book.
I really enjoy Simon Vance's narrations. He did Chris Ewan's other books, Good Thief's Guides. This time it's a different character (of course) and he alters his presentation accordingly. I'm always amazed at how good narrators are at conveying different characters, moods, even places through their delivery. This is no exception!
Uh, no I didn't laugh or cry - I'm not sure that would've been appropriate - but I was intrigued and had to keep listening to find out the end!
LOVE IT. You'll become a Chris Ewan fan.
"Lots of thrills!"
Katy Kellgren's reading is AMAZING. She's dramatic without being OVERdramatic, and is easy to listen to.
I LOVED The Boy in the Suitcase, so was eagerly awaiting this new book. It's as good as everyone says - as good as the first, with more Nina Borg character development. Don't want to give away anything, but there are definite surprises along the way.
Recommended to mystery & thriller fans. :)
"Sam Dastor is perfect !!"
Great match for Dastor's narrating skills and this fun mystery book. It's a delightful series, that'll give you some laughs and insight into the culture as well.
"Beautiful audiobook!"
I "found" this book after seeing a video by the author, where she talks about the backstory - an actual small town in New England that is purposefully flooded to make a lake. It was fascinating. And the story she writes here is just BEAUTIFUL, thoughtful, lovely! Don't think I'd ever heard Madeleine Lambert before, but she was really good narrating as well. I'd definitely recommend this, and look forward to O'Hara's next book!
"Another great mystery in this atmospheric series!"
The Liebermann series are smart murder mysteries set in fin de siecle Vienna, and they're really, really good. A mix of a serial killer hunt plus real life people from the era = super cool stuff. PLUS Robert Fass is brilliant at narrating these. He's the perfect voice for them, both interesting and easy to listen to. I can't recall how I stumbled on this author, but I've read every single book in the series! :) Highly recommended!
""Brilliant" and "Mesmerizing" reviews = all true!"
Peters has clearly done his research and it shows. A wonderfully written book, it sounds great via Peter Berkrot. I love this kind of history where everything comes to life! Definitely recommended!
