I enjoyed the novel, particularly learning more about life in 17th century Persia and carpet making. Shohreh Aghdashloo's unique narration was a real bonus. I looked forward to my daily commute and the opportunity to hear this great actress read this tale.
I was familiar with Sarah Vowell from her work on This American Life (her voice is unmistakable). I enjoyed this audiobook for her funny and insightful views grounded in her love for American history and her upbringing in the American West. This book is now close to ten years old and it is painful to realize her dread of Bush's election was spot on. Still worth a listen. I plan to listen to her other books based on this one.
If you are interested in politics, you will enjoy Heilemann and Halperin's insider view of the 2008 presidential campaign. The audio book is well done and I listened to the entire book. Even with a insider's look at all the blemishes of the candidates, I came away with a sense that we elected the right man in Barack Obama, and that Hillary Clinton is a remarkable person. Obama made the right choice is asking her to be Secretary of State.
