Critics have called her “sweet, adorable, and vicious.” But there is so much more to be said about Samantha Bee. For one, she’s Canadian - whatever that means. And now, she opens up for the very first time about her checkered Canadian past. With charming candor, she admits to her Lennie from Of Mice and Men-style love of baby animals, her teenage crime spree as one-half of a car-thieving couple, and the fact that strangers seem compelled to show her their genitals.

  • Huey Long

He was one of the most extraordinary figures in American political history, a great natural politician who looked, and often seemed to behave, like a caricature of the red-neck Southern politico - and yet he had become, at the time of his assassination, a serious rival to Franklin D. Roosevelt for the presidency. In this "masterpiece of American biography" (New York Times), Huey Long stands wholly revealed, analyzed, and understood.

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Aside from an overall excellent reading, Weiner hits some fairly specific accents very well. I'll excuse him for a few mispronunciations of difficult Louisiana towns and other names. I would actually consider listening to another audiobook just because Tom Weiner recorded it.

    Any additional comments?

This is the book if you want to really delve into the life of Huey Long. If you're looking to learn the basic story without as much detail, though still a well written book, try "Kingfish" by Richard D. White, Jr.

From the larger, louder half of the world-famous magic duo Penn & Teller comes a scathingly funny reinterpretation of The Ten Commandments. They are The Penn Commandments, and they reveal one outrageous and opinionated atheist’s experience in the world.

Would you try another book from Penn Jillette and/or Penn Jillette?

    Absolutely.

    Any additional comments?

If anything, this book kind of hurt his cause for Atheism to me. But it's still a great read and he's a fascinating person.

i>39 Years of Short-Term Memory Loss is a seriously funny, offbeat, and irreverent memoir that chronicles the early days of Saturday Night Live and features some of its greatest personalities---Al Franken, Lorne Michaels, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Michael O'Donoghue, and Chris Farley.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm a big comedy fan and a big SNL fan and I think Tom Davis has never gotten the exposure he should. I was very happy to finally get to know him a bit.

    Any additional comments?

Tom, if you ever read this, please keep writing and performing. If anyone in the industry reads this, please hire Tom Davis and give him a platform to write and perform. The world needs more Tom Davis.

SuperFreakonomics challenges the way we think all over again, exploring the hidden side of everything with such questions as: How is a street prostitute like a department-store Santa? What do hurricanes, heart attacks, and highway deaths have in common? Can eating kangaroo save the planet? Levitt and Dubner mix smart thinking and great storytelling like no one else.

  • When You Ride Alone You Ride with bin Laden: What the Government Should Be Telling Us to Help Fight the War on Terrorism

Political provocateur Bill Maher tells it like it is in a useful and hilarious guide for the many Americans who want to do more here at home to help in the war effort, but are at a loss as to how. Says Maher, "Traveling the country, I find that people want to do more here at home, but are at a loss as to what. Even when the government issues a Terrorism Advisory, it's maddeningly vague - 'Terrorist alert today! Code Burnt Orange!' 'And what?' I always want to ask, "Bring a sweater?'"

Would you consider the audio edition of When You Ride Alone You Ride with bin Laden to be better than the print version?

When an author reads his or her own words, it just works way better... at least with non-fiction.

Would you recommend When You Ride Alone You Ride with bin Laden to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend this only to hard-core Maher fans. For other friends, I'd recommend more recent works.

Which character – as performed by Bill Maher – was your favorite?

    There weren't any characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes. It wasn't very long.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Senator Joseph Lieberman made history when he became the first person of Jewish faith to be included on a major-party ticket. But he wasn't the first one to think of it. Not by a long shot. Last year, Al Franken asked the question, Why Not Me? in his audiobook of the same name...

If you could sum up Why Not Me? in three words, what would they be?

    Funny, but lengthy

Who was your favorite character and why?

Otto Franken is tough to beat. I just love the idiot who never learns or changes.

What does Al Franken bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His delivery on his material makes it come alive.
