What happens when a young child is traumatized? How does terror affect a child's mind---and how can that mind recover? Child psychiatrist Bruce Perry has treated children faced with unimaginable horror: genocide survivors, witnesses to their own parents' murders, children raised in closets and cages, the Branch Davidian children, and victims of family violence. In The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, he tells their stories of trauma and transformation.

What did you love best about The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog?

I had this book on my wish list for a long time not sure if I should get it or not. I was afraid that the book would be graphic like "Sybil" or "The Burning Bed". It's not. It's very insightful.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Dr. Perry is very good at explaining the cycle of abuse and neglect. He is vary compassionate about the children's stories At the same time he also shows compassion for the abusers and puts the emphases of child rearing not just on the parents, but the extended family and community.

    Any additional comments?

It takes a community to raise a child.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

What made the experience of listening to Daemon the most enjoyable?

Demon and its sequel Freedom TM take Sci-Fi to a whole new level. This story is fast paced and takes twists and turns that you didn't see coming.

What other book might you compare Daemon to and why?

If I didn't know better I would have thought this book was written by Scott Sigler.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Gurner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No. He's a good narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Hell yah!

    Any additional comments?

    I want more!

The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

If you could sum up The Mote in God's Eye in three words, what would they be?

    Solid political storyline.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm always impressed by Sci-Fi writers who can both accurately write about the political landscape of their time and who can predict the type of technology we will use in the future.

Have you listened to any of L J Ganser’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No I haven't.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

If you like vampires and romance then this is a book for you. It is well written and the character development is good. I like the over all story line, but I'm not into romance. I think that the book could have been shorter or had more action in it.

Has A Discovery of Witches turned you off from other books in this genre?

I don't like romance stories in the first place. I thought it would have moved faster.

Have you listened to any of Jennifer Ikeda’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I never read her stories before. I'd like to know what happens to the characters, but not if all of her other stuff is this slow and romantic.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not unless my wife made me.

    Any additional comments?

It's a great story line for people who like romances.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Where does Ender's Game rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not what I expected and better than I thought. Can't wait to hear the next book.

What did you like best about this story?

It's still futuristic even though it's 20 years old.
