I reserve 5 star ratings for wonderful books with beautiful language--usually what you'd call "literature." So 4 stars is the best I'll give a crime or mystery novel. I could not stop listening to this one; I got sucked in and considered wearing my iPod into the grocery store to listen while I shopped. Loved it and loved the ending!

I love war novels and movies. My husband laughs at me, but the humanity that comes out of war is hopeful and simply surviving it amazes me. This book was incredibly moving and anybody who says it's "boring" probably prefers action movies over human stories.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of and I would have liked more character development, but the plot, the excellent writing and main character's growth were enough to give it a solid 4 stars.

I think I agree with other reviewers in that I really don't like the character of Alafair in this book. Her role was distracting or maybe just not very well written. Aside from that, it's Burke's usual fight for the underdog with his wonderful, lyrical prose and commentary about human nature and human struggles.

I didn't realize the author was Stephen King's son, but I chose it because it was recommended by King and was not disappointed. The characters aren't particularly deep, but their suffering (past and present) makes them appealing nonetheless. There are some VERY dark parts of this book and the protagonist is NOT likeable at all until close to the end of the book. This isn't a book to listen to with the kids and probably won't appeal to people with more conservative sensibilities, but it is a great, dark, gritty, imaginative book.

I really enjoyed this book and the narrator did a fantastic job. I listen to loads of mysteries so it's nice when I find out that isn't formulaic. And if you're a parent, have a box of tissues handy!

I read some other reviews that said this was better than fourteen, they were lying. I'm pretty sure Ms. Evanovich is just having her assistant write these books at this point. There's no conflict anymore, the characters aren't doing anything interesting or new and I only finished listening to it because I was stuck in a car for many, many hours.

If this book were a movie, it would earn and deserve an "R" rating--you probably don't want to listen to it on a family vacation. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and the narrator does a great job. You'll have to suspend disbelief a little, but the book's tone is one of "being over the top."

This is a solid, well written book that kept me listening. I've only given it 4/5 stars because I save those 5 stars for books with beautiful language and imagery, but this is a book with a great plot and good characters. Some might say it's slow, but I'd call it methodical. The reader was good too.

On top of the disjointed storyline and too many boring, stereotypical characters, the writing is just atrocious! The metaphors rival those of an aspiring junior high writer. I've enjoyed the Bourne stories because they are based on a sensational premise but are/were so well written and well thought out that they were believable. This book requires way too much suspension of disbelief...there's actually a part where the writer can't really explain how the handy cross bows got to the right place at the right time. And the twists and turns are just absurd!! Don't waste your time or money.

I just love this series, but something's got to change. It's more of the same and it's not fresh anymore. If I hadn't been trapped in a car on a 12 hour road trip, I probably wouldn't have listened to the whole book.
