Charles Frazier puts his remarkable gifts in the service of a lean, taut narrative while losing none of the transcendent prose, virtuosic storytelling, and insight into human nature that have made him one of the most beloved and celebrated authors in the world. Now, with his brilliant portrait of Luce, a young woman who inherits her murdered sister’s troubled twins, Frazier has created his most memorable heroine. Before the children, Luce was content with the reimbursements of the rich Appalachian landscape....

Pulls you right in. Yes, a bit raw at times but so real. Loved the character of Luce. Her ability to overcome a hard life and offer nurturing to her sister's children show the best of human nature.

Francine Rivers is one of America's favorite romance writers and a bestselling inspirational author. Her many heartfelt novels have won awards and the adoration of fans accross the country. In Redeeming Love, she retells the Biblical story of Hosea, setting it in the 1850s, amidst California's gold country.

I've enjoyed other historical novels that have a religious theme (The Red Tent, People of the Book) but this one was just too preachy for me. I have to agree with the reviewers who found Michael Hosea too perfect and a bit creepy! Very disturbing that so many people see his obsession with Angel/Amanda as unconditional love.
