When Mrs. Dashwood is forced by an avaricious daughter-in-law to leave the family home in Sussex, she takes her three daughters to live in a modest cottage in Devon. For Elinor, the eldest daughter, the move means a painful separation from the man she loves, but her sister Marianne finds in Devon the romance and excitement which she longs for.

Loved the story to begin with but hearing it read by Juliet Stevenson really brought the characters to life.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

I absolutely loved this story - felt by the end that I knew all of them and wanted more. Am afraid to see the movie because the characters are still so alive in my head, not sure any actors can do them justice.

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Pride and Prejudice, the best known of Jane Austen's novels, reveals the acerbic and amusing critique of manners and morals in 19th-century England. Hear how the daughters of the bookish and indolent Mr. Bennet search for husbands...and how the family reacts when one of the daughters marries a scoundrel!

I think I would have preferred Juliet Stevenson's narration but otherwise truly loved it - this is by far my favorite Jane Austen novel.

I truly didn't get the point of this story - I kept waiting for the "wonder" which never came. I tried hard to like the characters and found myself not caring whether any of the survived. I think the narrator did a good job of telling the story - just not much to go on
