No journalist has ever been allowed into the ultrasecretive, highly pressured process of originating a perfume. But Chandler Burr, the New York Times perfume critic, spent a year behind the scenes observing the creation of two major fragrances.

Like the others, I enjoyed learning about the "industry", particularly as Un Jardin sur le Nil is one of my personal favorites.
However, the narrator's total lack of preparation to pronounce occasional French words and phrases is unforgivable. Not everyone knows foreign languages, but why not at least tutor him in what he needs to say? It was painful . . .

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

The audio version of this book is simply perfect. I loved the way the CEW's voice lent real life to "Enzo" . . . I listened to this book while on a solitary car trip, and was totally engaged at all times!
The story itself is very appealing. I tend to select books set in foreign countries, crime novels or award winners. This one was recommended to me by a family member, and I could not have been happier. Have "gifted" it to others as well.
