The visionary creator of the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and a Hammett Award-winning author bring their imaginations to this bold, epic novel about a horrifying battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. It is the first installment in a thrilling trilogy and an extraordinary international publishing event.

"The first book in a series"
    Overall

I think some of the negative reviews are in part that this is only the first book and the story does not completely end. I think this was a wonderful story. Leave it up to Guillermo Del Toro to take the romantic out and put the horrifying back into vampires.

Dubbed "the American Tolkien" by Time magazine, number-one New York Times best-selling author George R. R. Martin is a giant in the field of fantasy literature and one of the most exciting storytellers of our time. Now he delivers a rare treat for listeners: a compendium of his shorter works, collected into two stunning volumes, that offers fascinating insight into his journey from young writer to award-winning master.

    Nancy says: "Disappointed."
    "Skip this one"
    Overall

This book only contains two stories worth note, The Skin Trade and The Hedge Knight. The first part of the book is Martin's contribution to the Wild Card series. With only having Martin's part of this multi authored work there are huge holes in the stories so bad that I really had a hard time hanging in there. Skip this one and look for The Skin Trade and The Hedge Knight separately.

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

    "I miss Roy Dotrice !"
    Overall

Please save your credits. I read the reviews and thought I would miss Roy Dotrice but that I would make it through with the new reader. Mr. Lee sounds like he is doing a bad impression of Sean Connery. It is very hard to follow which character is speaking. Listen to the preview very carefully before you purchase. I would recommend the ebook, maybe if enough people pass on this book they can get Mr. Dotrice to read it.

Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor", and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of: a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history.

It's five o'clock in the morning and still dark. Swimming outside the wave break off the Catalina coast, training for her next long-distance swim (she has already crossed the English Channel twice), 17-year-old Lynne Cox senses that something is following her. She worries that it might be a great white shark.

    "Soothing-great book"
    Overall

This book surprised me. The author has a wonderful reading voice that is soothing and a little hypnotic. This is a story about a great experience and is told in a motivating, and loving way. I had a little tear at the end, but in a good way.

This book has a great story, but it feels very slow. I felt like the author was adding dialogue just to draw out the plot and this did not work.
