This Year It Will be Different brings us the magic and spirit of Christmas in 15 stories filled with Maeve Binchy's trademark wit, charm, and sheer storytelling genius. Instead of nostalgia, Binchy evokes contemporary life; instead of Christmas homilies, she offers truth; and instead of sugarplums, she brings us the nourishment of holidays that precipitate change, growth, and new beginnings.

If you like hunourous short stories, this is a great book. I think I have pretty much read all of Maeve Binchy's books, narrated by her daughter Kate Binchy and this is a lovely lighthearted look at Christmas and all that it entails.

In their favourite café, a group of female friends meet regularly to discuss their troubles; but even friends can't always tell each other the truth. Cynthia is happily married to her lifelong sweetheart, but not even their present wealth and security makes her willing to reveal the abuse and trauma they suffered as children. Meriel's husband has abandoned her for another woman.

    "Good modern drama"

I normally read detective stories, but decided to try this author out - I really enjoyed it. A good narrator and an interesting and developing story line. I would recommend this book, but especially to women.

New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult explores a complex and troubled American family in The Tenth Circle, the tale of a broken-hearted teenage girl and the father who will do anything to protect her. High school freshman Trixie Stone comes home from a party and says the boy she loves, and who recently dumped her, sexually assaulted her. Her father never imagined anything so devastating could happen, and now he's not sure how to help his daughter.

Linda says: "Picoult wrote a disappointing story."
    "Gripping story"
    Overall

This is a very thought-provoking and fulfilling read by Jodi Picoult, with excellent narrators and subject matter that would pluck at the heart strings of any reader. An excellent read.

Ten days to Christmas, and on a bitter December afternoon 8-year-old Tracy Uphill goes missing. Detective Inspector Jack Frost, Denton Police Force's scruffiest officer, knows they only have a limited time to find her, and he's also got to nursemaid Detective Constable Clive Barnard, whose uncle just happens to be the Chief Constable....Then the bodies start to pile up and a crime committed many years before leads a murderer to kill again.

I really like this author and his characters, having watched the TV series years ago. Especially good because it is narrated by David Jason, who played Inspector Frost in the TV series. Great humour and great story line.

The discovery of two teenage girls' bodies and a video of a snuff movie showing the death of one of the victims leaves Detective Inspector Jack Frost in a race against time before the killer can strike again.

Another great book by R D Wingfield - plenty of suspense and more of that great Inspector Frost Bristish sense of humour. I've listened to this one many times
