"Great thriller from the 30's"
I loved this book, and the narration. It gives you a good feel for Europe in the late 20's and early 30's.
"Great blast at Miami life, could use less detail"
Cubans, Haitians, Russians, Anglos, old Jews, Art Basel, modern art in Miami. Wolfe blasts them all in his inimitable style. But it seems like he filled the book with more detail than is needed; in order to make the book longer?
"Good first half of the book"
I quit listening about half way through the book. It started very well, but then I lost interest.
"Modern life in India, the good and the not so good"
I loved the story, and the narration. I was a little put off by the indian accent at first, but then really enjoyed it.
"A book for everone"
This is an amazing book. It is about the few guys who figured out that the crash was coming and how to make a lot of money from it. All the the people are such unusual characters. A fabulous listen; never a dull moment. You don't have to be in the financial business to enjoy this book.
"Funny, Funny, Funny"
Another great Jeeves book.
"A good book, not his best"
I love Burke, but I don't think this is quite a good as the others I have listened to. It starts out a little slowly, but then speeds up and has a great ending. Will Patton is terrific as always.
"Boring book"
I quit listening after about 1/3 of the book. It moves very slowly.
The Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brian are much better books with similar themes.
"The funniest book I've listened to in a long time"
You may not like this book if you are offended by ethnic stereotypes (Black, Catholic, Jewish, southern, police, intellectuals), but I found the book hilarious. The author skewers everyone including the police and the city of New Orleans. it is too bad this is his only book.
"Too much background information"
I got tired of listening after about two hours. There was too much background information about Joan and her childhood for me.
