I've been a fan of David Weber's Honor Harrington series for years. It's great to finally have unabridged audio versions of them. My only caveat is that the narrator is difficult to understand at times. Her voice is a good choice for Honor, but her interpretation is very different than my own has been (in my head) during my many re-readings of this book.

Society believes the worst of Justin Alastair, the notorious Duke of Avon who is clearly proud of his Sobriquet, Satanas. It is he who buys Leon body and soul from a scoundrel in a Paris backstreet.

Set before the French Revolution, an English duke rescues a French "guttersnipe", with murky plans for his(?) future, but the brat turns the duke's plans on him -- Cinderella with a touch of Romeo and Juliet. This has always been my favorite Georgette Heyer book, and I love them all. "Devil's Cub" is the sequel, set in the next generation.

Some ETs have arrived to warn us that we've got five years to prepare to be invaded by really hungry, really dangerous aliens. This story is the start of a series that seems to get better as it goes (not that the first books aren't great!). The action is almost nonstop, and you can't help wondering how we're going to survive the roller coaster of preparation, off-world battles, and political change in the face of invasion.

This is well worth listening to. The heroine is half American Indian/half Irish. For years she has pretended to be plain old 'Joann Walker,' but now her true heritage & name catch up with her and turn her life (and the Seattle police) upside down. Very entertaining. Now I want to get the second book in the series to find out what happens next!

With her greatest enemy dead, and on her way to be reunited with the family she'd been stolen from long ago, Yelena should be pleased. But though she has gained her freedom, she can't help feeling isolated in Sitia. Her Ixian background has changed her in many ways, and her newfound friends and relatives don't think it's for the better....

The main character, Yelena, is so engaging and so endangered that I blew through this book in 2 days, even though I like to ration my audio books. Now I have to have the next book, Magic Study, to find out whether Yelena manages to land on her feet again. Her attitude reminds me a bit of Sookie Stackhouse in Charlaine Harris' books -- never give up, and rarely give up the last word.
