I love a cheesy romance novel, but this just didn't cut it. Too much stuff was repeated and the whole story was lacking momentum.

The male voice in this performance was AWFUL. Women should not make male voices just like men shouldn't speak in falsetto as if that were a genuine representation of a woman's voice.

I loved this book! The story was so different from other mysteries and I loved the ongoing narrative about everything that makes books so wonderful! I find that many mystery stories end with boring predictability but Mr. Penumbra was definitely an anomaly! The whole book was great, but the absolute best part of the book is the ending - and not because that meant the book was over!
The narrator was also perfect for the book. His voice was youthful (which suited the first person narrative of a young man) but also had a husky quality to it that made me think he had ingested too much dust from Mr. Penumbra's store!
I wasn't sure about this book when I downloaded it since I had never heard of it...but take the chance on a somewhat unknown...it is SO worth the risk!!

Listening to Anthony's perspective on being autistic. It was fascinating.

I loved the analogy of the rooms in Anthony's brain. It really got me thinking about the children I work with who have autism - it really resonated with me because it made so much sense!

The narration was good in that Debra Messing had a calm and quiet voice that matched the tone of the story. However, I found the volume of her voice to be very inconsistent. I would crank the volume to be able to hear the narration but then the beginnings of sentences would be so loud they would hurt my ears. The sentence starting was not nearly as smooth as the rest of the reading.

Spoiler alert: I really wish I could have known three things at the end of the book: 1. How did Jimmy and Beth work things out? 2. What did Beth finally name her book? 3. Where did Olivia go?

I loved Sarah's Key and was hooked right from the beginning....but this one is such a snooze fest! I only made it through the first two chapters before I couldn't take anymore. The narration is sooooooo monotonous and flat. This story moves at a shockingly glacial pace. I wouldn't recommend it.

This was one of the best books I have ever read. The story is very unique and keeps the listener interested throughout. Invokes every emotion from joy to sorrow and hope to despair. Even better than "The Art of Racing in the Rain"!
