Telescopes on Earth have detected an Earth-sized planet circling a star some 30 light-years away. Now the race is on to get pictures of that distant world that show whether or not the planet is truly like Earth - and if it bears life. Farside observatory will have the largest optical telescope in the solar system and the most sensitive radio telescope, insulated from the interference of Earth’s radio chatter by a thousand kilometers of the moon’s solid body. But building Farside is a complex, dangerous task. And what they ultimately find stuns everyone, and humanity will never be the same.

Would you try another book from Ben Bova and/or Stefan Rudnicki?

Not one of Mr Bova's best works but well worth reading.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Wish I had not downloaded the new Iphone App, then this book would have been more enjoyable!

Did Farside inspire you to do anything?

I went back and looked for any other of Ben Bova'a works that I may have missed, so I must have liked it.

The great debate is over. The human race has rejected the idea of pulling back from the stars and hiding on Earth in the hope the Broa will overlook us for a few more generations. Instead, the World Parliament, by a 60-40 vote, has decided to throw the dice and go for a win. Parliament Hall resounds with brave words as members declare victory inevitable. With the balance of forces a million to one against Homo sapiens' Terra, those who must turn patriotic speeches into hard-won reality have their work cut out for them.

The expedition to the Crab Nebula has returned to Earth and the news is not good. Out among the stars, a million systems have fallen under Broan domination, the fate awaiting Earth should the Broa ever learn of its existence. The problem would seem to allow but three responses: submit meekly to slavery, fight and risk extermination, or hide and pray the Broa remain ignorant of humankind for at least a few more generations. Are the hairless apes of Sol III finally faced with a problem for which there is no acceptable solution?

Where does Starbound rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you like whitchs's, goblins, vampires and magic then this is not for you. If on the other hand you, like me thinks phantasy should be kept in a different section of the library and never allowed to be mixed with Sci-FI then this is a classic. This book also contains the thing that is so often missing in todays science fiction a tru omg twisted ending that makes yiou stop and think. So many just end.

    Any additional comments?

I didn't read the first book in this series (Marsbounound) because it had a poor rating. I am now reading the last book (Earthbound). After this book I just had to read the final book. If it turns out to be any where near as good as this one was then I will be reading the first book last. I'll let you know.

C.J. Cherryh, one of the most prolific and acclaimed SF writers in the world, delivers the seventh book in her Foreigner series, and the first book in the new Foreigner trilogy - the epic tale of the survivors of a lost spacecraft who crash-land on a planet inhabited by a hostile, sentient race. From its beginnings as a human-alien story of first contact, the Foreigner series has become a true SF odyssey.

A prolific writer for film, television, and theater, Philip Palmer here delivers a science-fiction thriller that rockets along from blistering start to fiery conclusion. A juggernaut striking fear into the hearts of planets that fall within its path, the Hell Ship mercilessly slaughters innocents as it travels through space, amassing slaves. But one slave, Sharrock, refuses to accept his shackles—and his cause is soon to be boosted by Jak, who’s following the ship and determined to destroy it for its crimes.

Maybe it's fantasy? I don't know why fantasy and Sci Fi are often put in the same catagory because they are distinctly different genre. The author is a great writer but not a Science Fiction writer. Weird aliens and monsters don't make it Sci Fi.
