From the voice of a generation: the most highly anticipated autobiography of the year, and the story of a man who wanted The Who to be called The Hair; wanted to be a sculptor, a journalist, a dancer and a graphic designer; became a musician, composer, librettist, fiction writer, literary editor, sailor; drank too much and nearly died; detached from his body in an airplane, on LSD, and nearly died; planned to write his memoir when he was 21; and published this book at 67.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No! This book dragged on for way too long. I kept hoping the Townsend would give me some reason to like him but it never happened. Perhaps if someone else had narrated, I would have liked him better.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    Different narrator.

What three words best describe Pete Townshend’s performance?

    Ho-hum, dull, so-so

Was Who I Am worth the listening time?

    no!

    Any additional comments?

I suppose if you're a huge Who fan, then you'll appreciate this book more than I. I wanted to learn more about Townsend and the band but instead I ended up not liking him as a person at all. Spoiled, cheating, arrogant rock star!

In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys - best friends - are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen, after that 1953 foul ball, is extraordinary and terrifying.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Prayer for Owen Meany to be better than the print version?

    Not sure

What did you like best about this story?

    The uniqueness of the story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The weekend before the death occurred. It was very relaxed as two old friends got together one last time.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A story so bizarre only John Irving could dream it up!

    Any additional comments?

I misunderstood some parts of the book due to the long-windedness of the writing. But it was quite visual which I enjoyed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this to someone who has leukemia.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anna - the 13 year old in the story. She is so strong.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Probably the one with the dog, Judge, when his owner is about to have a seizure.

If you could take any character from My Sister's Keeper out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Anna because I love the precociousness of teens.

    Any additional comments?

The ending really fooled me. Sad, bittersweet but provided comfort in the last sentences. Thank you for that Jodi.

Time and again, the bar offered shelter from failure, rejection, heartbreak, and eventually from reality.

Have someone who knows how to read narrate this book!

If you’ve listened to books by the authors before, how does this one compare?

    Terrible!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ryan O'Neal?

    not sure.

Was Both of Us worth the listening time?

    No

    Any additional comments?

He glosses over so many events that the listener is not sure what's true. Addiction is a mental disease and one that is often hereditary. I can't believe that neither Ryan nor Farrah didn't have some issues surrounding drugs and/or alcohol.

I do not recommend this book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is my first foray into this type of fiction. I recommend it to my girlfriends as it's a great escape and makes me daydream about what life could be like. I find myself anxious to pick up where I left off which means "is it time to drive somewhere again?" as I listen to books in my car!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the character finally felt belittled and said "that's enough!" so now I must get the second book!

    Any additional comments?

I listened to the first part with the original narrator and was surprised to hear a different one when I downloaded the remainder of the book. Becca's deep voice is much more believable than the original one. But how many times must the character say "Oh my!"?
