Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for more than 20 years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his 14-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student.

Would you consider the audio edition of Defending Jacob to be better than the print version?

I use my audio tapes to entertain myself during my daily three mile walk. I have never read anything by William Landay. I purchased because of the books best seller status, Landay is a new author for me, and I am a fan of courtroom thrillers. This courtroom drama was well crafted and verbally acted. It was told from the perspective of a father and the Assistant DA who is forced to be on the sidelines for the murder trial in defense of his only 14 year old son. His son is accused of killing in a brutal manner one of his classmates. The father and Assistant DA has a background of generations of male relatives who have been convicted of violent crimes. One of the plot lines is something call the killing gene. I do not want to give away the plot, but Landay does a good job keeping your interest. Let us just say I always looked forward to my walk to hear the next couple of chapters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The narrator - the father. The story was told from his perspective. It was very interesting how he balanced his professional experience vs. his love of his son. His insights and emotional respones and those of his wife and his son's mother were interesting and quite surprising.

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

All of them. Grover Gardner is a talented vocal actor.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

See the NY Times Best Seller Defending Jacob brought to the screen!

    Any additional comments?

Great book. I can see why it is a bestseller.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

What did you like best about this story?

The Racketeer was very entertaining. Grisham lets clues filter out slowly.
