    When 30-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts. T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter.

    Would you listen to On the Island again? Why?

    Probably at some point.


    How did the narrator detract from the book?

    At first I didn't think I would be able to listen to this narrator. She was talking so fast at first, and everything was running together. It really got on my nerves. I don't know if she got better as the book went along or if I just got used to her, but by the end it didn't bother me as much.


    Any additional comments?

    At first I was unsure of this book because of the age difference of the characters, but it turned out to be okay. Parts of the book are unrealistic, but I read for escapism so that never bothers me as long as it's a good story.

    The situation seemed like one that anybody could be in.


    What aspect of Lola Holiday’s performance would you have changed?

    She made Alex sound like a 70-year-old hillbilly grandma with a smoking habit. Other than that she was okay.
