Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, average technical basis and discussion. I appreciate a book that doesn't wave away the laws of physics. Story held my interest.

What other book might you compare On Basilisk Station to and why?

Daniel Leary series. Similar military themes.
    Larry Niven is better.

What aspect of Allyson Johnson’s performance would you have changed?

Her reading was consistent. My complaints were that when a transition occurred, there was often no pause in the narration. Consequently, I often lost continuity while I realized that the discussion and characters changed. Also, she dropped too much in volume when people were engaging in low discussions, causing me to increase and decrease volume of the player. Ms. Johnson needs to realize that people have different hearing capabilities and that the frequency of her voice requires a certain volume setting of the player. If her dynamics shift is too wide, it causes a less than enjoyable reading experience. I have failed in this criticism as I can't make it constructive by providing an example narrator to hold as an example of good narration. Sorry.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

Master trader Er Thom knows the custom of Liad is to be matched with a proper bride, and provide his prominent clan Korval with an heir. Yet his heart is immersed in another universe, influenced by another culture, and lost to a woman not of his world. To take a Terran wife such as scholar Anne Davis is to risk his honor and reputation. When he discovers that their brief encounter years before has resulted in the birth of a child, even more is at stake than anyone imagined.

Lifelong Reader says: "Wonderful narration of a classic book"
"Narrator is the best I heard."
    Overall

I didn't catch who was reading when the book started but was amazed at the skill and how inflection can draw one into a story. No wonder the reader sounded so familiar and comfortable. Michael Shanks plays favored characters on TV and definately should continue reading!!
