Atlantic is a biography of a tremendous space that has been central to the ambitions of explorers, scientists, and warriors, and continues profoundly to affect our character, attitudes, and dreams. Spanning the ocean's story, from its geological origins to the age of exploration, from World War II battles to today's struggles with pollution and overfishing, Winchester's narrative is epic, intimate, and awe inspiring.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I almost didn't finish this book, which is a rarity for me. The intro alone was 1 1/2 hrs long and the entire first part of the book seemed to be a snobbish name-dropping list of Atlantic coast towns and cities and his seeming assumption that everyone who reads his book is well traveled and has been to the same places. To have any idea of what the author is talking about you need to have, at the very least, an atlas beside you as you listen. He jumps from one place to another often quickly and doesn't say much of anything pertaining to the purpose of the book. However, the book redeems itself in the second half and turned out to be quite worth wading through to get there living up to it's advertising.
The author himself is a fine reader.

Has Atlantic turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

Which character – as performed by Simon Winchester – was your favorite?

    N/A

Could you see Atlantic being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No

Science starts to get interesting when things don't make sense. Science's best-kept secret is that there are experimental results and reliable data that the most brilliant scientists can neither explain nor dismiss. If history is any precedent, we should look to today's inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. Michael Brooks heads to the scientific frontier to meet 13 modern-day anomalies and discover tomorrow's breakthroughs.

What did you love best about 13 Things That Don't Make Sense?

This book really jazzed me! I've listened to it twice so far and also brought the book in print. It has inspired me to look deeper into all the subjects covered in the book and branch out. Even a year later I am still raving about this book. It's a real poser and if it doesn't make you think about and question life and all it's aspects then you are brain dead.

What other book might you compare 13 Things That Don't Make Sense to and why?

I'm looking forward to more form this author as well as Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking and all the people mentioned in the book.

What about James Adams’s performance did you like?

Well read, proper pronunciation, no exazzerations, can't hear breathing or other background noises.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Brain food

    Any additional comments?

Please, I want to see more books like this.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

All the reviews touted this book as King's opus and I was really looking forward to it because I have always enjoyed his non-horror stories. I was very disappointed in this story and couldn't wait for it to be over. If I hadn't paid so much for the audible version this would have been one of the few books I've never finished.

A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner - an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief - is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down. Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with.

This was my first David Rosenfelt book and I came upon it by chance thinking it was going to be a light, dog-oriented, cozy. What a wonderful surprise to discover such amusing characters and a much more involved, convoluted plot than expected. The further I went the more I was drawn into the book! Great tale and Grover Gardner is the perfect voice for these stories. You can be sure Rosenfelt is now on my favorite author's list.

At the rock-bottom end of the sport of kings sits the ruthless and often violent world of cheap horse racing, where trainers and jockeys, grooms and hotwalkers, loan sharks and touts are all struggling to take an edge, or prove their luck, or just survive. Equal parts Nathanael West, Damon Runyon and Eudora Welty, Lord of Misrule follows five characters -- scarred and lonely dreamers in the American grain -- through a year and four races at Indian Mound Downs, downriver from Wheeling, West Virginia.

    Story

I'm a horse lover and was really looking forward to an enjoyable read. I was terribly disappointed to find it very hard going. Not being conversant with racetrack lingo I had a hard time understanding what was going on even when there were explanations because they were made using that same lingo. I gave up then returned to the book several times but have not yet been able to get into it. I feel like a hopelessly lost outsider struggling and failing to comprehend what's going on. Perhaps reading the actual book first will help but at present it seems a waste. I'm looking for entertainment not a study course in which I have to have reference books at hand.
On another note, the reader was a surprise, being female (If left up to me I would have opted for a male reader), but I felt she had a good grasp of the characters and an excellent range of voices and I quickly became comfortable with her.

I enjoyed the story and the reading was well done but I got the impression the book had been abridged. It was as if I had missed something important concerning some of the events in the book and background of the characters. Though a good story it could have been better if the author had approached it as a single title and fleshed it out into a longer book.

When someone makes a present of a fer-de-lance - the dreaded snake - to Nero Wolfe, Archie Goodwin knows he's close to solving two apparently unrelated murders. As for Wolfe, he's playing snake charmer in a case more deadly than a cobra and whistling a seductive tune he hopes will catch a killer with poison in his heart.

For a book recorded so recently it has static and deleted words throughout. Despite this it is well performed and a good story.
