"Mindless"
This is a cross between a comic book and a soap. And bad ones at that.I can't believe these sell.
"major disappointment"
As a OSC fan who has read the entire Ender series including first meetings, and also Empire,as much as I really wanted to like this book,I couldn't. It is looong and boring. Those who said the only good part was the last ten minutes are somewhat correct. Actually, even that was not that great. I purchased this even after reading the bad reviews. I should have listened.
"another must read in the series"
In some ways this was better than Ender's game. Once again Card come up with some unique and imaginative ideas. What an imagination. You really must read this if you want to take the next step in the series. You won't be disappointed. If you liked Ender's game you will like this. Have listened to Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow,Shadow of the Hegemon,Shadow of Pupets,Shadow of the Giant,in that order as per the suggestion of another writer. Therefore, I have some knowledge of the series. This is another great Card read. I too have complained about one of the woman readers.Unfortunately, and sadly I am almost used to her winey voice. Am now starting Xenocide and the on to Children of the Mind. Will keep you informed on my unlearned opinions.
"Excellent - Important part of the saga"
Having read Ender's Game, Enders Shadow, Shadow of the Hegman, Shadow of the Puppets (not great)and now Shadow of the Giant in that order, I recomend this as an important and touching part of the series. There are some relegious parts that might not appeal to some;however, this should be read. You will not be disapointed.Am now off to Speaker for the Dead,Zenocide and finaly Children of the Mind. Will miss some of our friends however.
"too much fluff"
I have read Enders game,E Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon which were great. This one was no where near the others. One disk would have told this whole story. There are some interesting parts but they are imbeded in tons of filler. Am on to Shadow of the Giant. Hopefully that will be the old Card. This is no where near his best. The end picks up otherwise this would have been a complete waste.
"A must read after Ender's Game"
Card is amazing. This is the perfect companion to Ender's Game. It beautifuly enriches the Ender's saga. You will not be disapointed in how Scott inter weaves this with EG. As always Scott's Imagination and writing is the best. And of course there is a surprise or two. Am now listening to Shadow of the Hegemon which is supposed to be listened to next.
"Don't miss this one"
What a fantastic story. You'll never anticipate the climax. While I have some trouble with the age and maturity of the children,it's still a great listen. My only real problem was with the often whiney voice of the woman reader. I going to follow Joe form Sacramento's order -6/13/05 p15 -since he has read all the books.Just started Ender's Shadow which seems to make sense as the book after EG.Thanks Joe for the tip.
