Great listen! While she does have an accent, it adds to the richness of this book!
Also, read "Infidel" first. Both books are outstanding.
narration excellent, story engaging,. you will care about the two main characters, and the baby.
I have read many "end times" books. it's interesting to read the different interpretations of change. "alas babylon" is a character study with heart. the" surviving home" series condems others for looting, killing, when the heroes do the same things. right is on their side. this book......goes into such minute detail that I am surprised the heart and respiration are not given.
as with many end times stories, the main character is a somewhat two dimensional figure, saving the others. maybe I slept thru the nuances of his person.
it just didn't resonate with me.
all aspects of this audio book are superb. will patton s silky voice, and distinct characterizations bring these people to life for me. I have read numerous "endtimes" books, some preachy, some political, some zombie...ick...Alas Babylon is the best by a mile.
If 'Christian' gets to the deserted store first, before the "looters", and packs off with thousands of dollars in goods, isn't the Christian the first looter? These characters believe they are superior... and they are not. Maybe three stars are too many?
I've read lots of "end times" books. The best is "Alas Babylon". It doesn't bombard with product names and gun types.. and has a deep sense of humanity that this effort does not convey.
I listen to lots of books... this is a good story, interesting idea. However, if I didn't have double time speed I would have slept thru the entire book.
Good series, good story. Narration leaves a little to be desired, but didn't ruin the book.'
I have hundreds of audio books and not every narrator can be Will Patton!
The series is a bit addictive. I read all three in a short time, and look forward to the June release of the final chapters. It's a little annoying that the author decided to turn the final book into two books.. seems like a bit of a money grab. (shrug) I think I got the first one for free, so it's a wash in my opinion.
I found this book somewhat laughable. I wondered when they were going to suggest a tinfoil hat. Seriously strange.
It is difficult for me to believe this author is so popular. I would not recommend this book, unless you are already a diehard Clancy fan. In addition, the narration is deadly dull. Compare this narrator to Will Patton or Raul Esparza and you will see the incredible difference.
Clancy does weave a good story, but chacters are predictable and sometimes even silly. I started to wonder about this when our hero picks up a total stranger, hitchhiking.. then pays nearly no attention to her behaviour. COME ON!
I won't finish the book. This was a wasted credit for sure.
