"coping with stress through meditation"
If you want to learn more about how to cope with stress via meditation then this is a good book for you. The book was written for people who have never practiced mindfulness and meditation before. It is not for people looking for a “quick fix” for their daily problems. The techniques taught by Dr. Kabat-Zinn are intended to be practiced everyday and eventually you will improve your ability to cope through relaxation techniques.
"Fantastic!"
I highly recommend this book for any Veterans. I would also recommend this book for friends and family members of Veterans so you can get a better understanding about what PTSD is and how you can help your loved ones.
"Thank you, Morrie and Mitch for the lessons"
Yes - there are some great life lessons
I listened to this book while working on a painting and I loved it. It felt like Morrie was sitting with me and talking while I worked.
Someone asked me if the book is depressing because it involves conversations with a man who is dieing. Personally, I didn’t find it depressing at all. I equated it to Randy Pausch’s book The Last Lecture. Both books were written by people who were diagnosed with a terminal illness and both books have good lessons and good stories.
"Good book!"
I really enjoyed this book. I agree that it is entertaining and illuminating and I’m looking forward to reading his next book.
"Can be summed up in 4 words: eat salads or die"
I just got very tired of his use of extremes. After two hours of listening to this book, I felt like he was starting to beat a dead horseradish. I tried getting through this book but after 4 ½ hours I couldn’t take any more.
For some people, this might be a great diet but it isn’t my cup of tea. The publisher’s summary says “When Mehmet Oz has a patient whose life depends on losing weight”. Maybe this book didn’t work for me because my life doesn't depend on losing weight. When I last saw my doctor he said all of my tests results were great. I normally eat at least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables per day and walk over an hour every day. My sibling and I have lost about 300 lbs together just by increasing our water intake, decreasing portion sizes and increasing activity levels. My family also tends to live into their upper 80s and none of them were ever vegetarians.
I think it is great that this diet has helped some people improve their health and decrease their weight but I don’t think it is for everyone.
"Thank you Terry Pratchett"
What a great book series! My sister gave me “The Wee Free Men” for Christmas and I was hooked. I think the Hat Full of Sky is just as delightful. The stories are interesting, humorous and good for both children and adults alike. This is one of those books you will listen to over and over again.
"A Touching Story"
This is a good book for anyone who loves dogs/pets. It is also good if you have any experience with Alzheimer's disease/dementia, and end of life care.
"entertaining but not one of my top picks"
This was enjoyable to listen to and I liked the fact that there are two narrators for this story. There are times when I thought it dragged a bit and some of my friends said the constant changing of times became confusing for them. If you struggle with time lines, you might prefer to watch the movie.
"two thumbs up!"
Loved it! Neil Gainman does an excellent job narrating this wonderful story. I have listened to it twice now.
"Eye opening"
This was an amazing journey of a woman who spent over a year living as a man. I would read/listen to it again.
