This reader brings the myriad characters/narrators in Bleak House to life. His rendering of their distinctive accents and intonations helps the listener follow the book's twists and turns of structure and plot.
I was disappointed to discover that, in Ms. Stevenson's rendering, the good-hearted Fanny and Edmond come across as so flat and priggish that I couldn't finish listening to the book! On the other hand, she does a great job bringing the less likable characters to vibrant life.
Jane Eyre tells her own story--how independent she is in ways unexpected for the time period! Because the book unfolds in the first person, the narrator has to be good in order to bring Jane to life. Nadia May has recorded many of Jane Austen and George Eliot's novels and her nuanced readings are a delight. I loved this version of an old classic.
