    We liked the last story written by Rick's son. Amazing that a 16-year-old wrote it!

    These short stories by Rick Riordan are great additions to his novels. We've enjoyed reading each one that he's created.

    When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

    Would you listen to The Casual Vacancy again? Why?

    This was a terrific story loaded with detailed descriptions. I really got hooked into the characters.


    Did Tom Hollander do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Yes.


    Who was the most memorable character of The Casual Vacancy and why?

    I think Fats was the most memorable character and JK Rowling took us through some twists and turns with him.


    Any additional comments?

    I purchased this with a little in trepidation because JK Rowling seemed to be getting some pretty bad reviews. My family was huge Harry Potter fans and I love her storytelling ability and the amount of detail she puts into her characters and her books. I was a bit taken aback at times how sexually graphic this story was. Overall though a great listen.
