For a man who insisted that life on the public stage was not what he had in mind, Thomas Jefferson certainly spent a great deal of time in the spotlight, even in his retirement. In American Sphinx, Ellis sifts the facts from the legend to find the heart of the man who, at the grass roots, is no longer liberal or conservative, agrarian or industrialist, pro- or anti-slavery, privileged or populist.

I was very concerned about trying this book reading the complaints about the audio quality. I contacted audible and they assured me a new, complete file had been uploaded and I can attest to that.

Thanks audible! This was a great book and the audio quality on it was tremendous!

True, not everything that Zig talks about in this book is going to be useful, but that's why he gives everyone so many options. Mostly Zig talks about staying motivated as a salesperson, doing it for the right reasons and not giving up when you know you can help someone. Zig was a national treasure and this book was awesome.

"Have you ever felt caught between the tension of a day job and a dream job? That gap between what you have to do and what you’d love to do? I have. At first I thought I was the only one who felt that way, but then I started to talk to people and realized we’re becoming the “I’m, but” generation. When we talk about what we do for a living we inevitably say, 'I’m a teacher, but I want to be an artist.'"

Beloved and hated, venerated and reviled, Andrew Jackson was an orphan who fought his way to the pinnacle of power, bending the nation to his will in the cause of democracy. Jackson's election in 1828 ushered in a new and lasting era in which the people, not distant elites, were the guiding force in American politics. Democracy made its stand in the Jackson years, and he gave voice to the hopes and the fears of a restless, changing nation facing challenging times at home and threats abroad.

Jackson did so many great things but he also did so many horrible things. He brought tremendous power to the Presidency which lead to many positives as America became larger but also did many horrible things to the native population and was part of the beginning of the end for Gentlemanly elections in the US.

Overall, a great book and should be required reading for anyone interested in the American Presidency!

In Washington: A Life celebrated biographer Ron Chernow provides a richly nuanced portrait of the father of our nation. This crisply paced narrative carries the reader through his troubled boyhood, his precocious feats in the French and Indian War, his creation of Mount Vernon, his heroic exploits with the Continental Army, his presiding over the Constitutional Convention, and his magnificent performance as America's first president.

Chernow did an amazing job of putting together a quality biography of Washington without skipping over things that do not fit into the public perception of the Father of our Country.

This book should be required reading for every American interested in our history and NEEDS to be required reading for every US Politician.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

Jobs did more to advance personal technology than almost anyone else in history, but it came at a cost.

I expected to leave this book with more respect for Jobs and what he accomplished but what it really did was left me questioning where his priorities really were.

It was a great read and I appreciate that he didn't want anything sugar coated but looking back I wonder if he would have done anything differently.

    >. Orange Beach, Alabama is a simple town filled with simple people. But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems - marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses. Fortunately, when things look the darkest - a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up.

This isn't my favorite Andy Andrews book and it doesn't hold a candle to The Travelers Gift but it was well put together with a good message.

Andrews always does a great job mixing his message in with a well put together story but I honestly think his real life story about Jones and what it did for him would have been better than this book.

The Noticer is worth listening to but if you can only read one Andy Andrews book do yourself a favor and pick up The Travelers Gift. In my opinion that is one of the best books ever written.

James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.
