Laura Hillenbrand beautifully renders this breathtaking saga of one horse's journey from also-ran to national luminary. Seabiscuit: An American Legend is an inspiring tale of unlikely heroes, a classic story of three embattled individuals overcoming the odds in the Great Depression.

    "Outstanding"
    Overall

Simply captivating. One of the best books I've read/listened to in the last five years. I read it before it became a national obsession and recommended it to lots of people. I agree with some reviewers that the unabridged version might be better, but this was awfully good.

So much of our human body is made up of salt that we'd be dead without it. The fine balance of nature, the trade of salt as a currency of many nations and empires, the theme of a popular Shakespearean play...Salt is best selling author Mark Kurlansky's story of the only rock we eat.

    Karen says: "More than SALT"
    "Drags a bit in places"
    Overall

This is one of the rare books that might be a better listen in an unabridged version. It's quite interesting in places, but SOOOO exhaustive in scope that I was bored in other places. However, I now truly appreciate the monumental role that salt has played in world history.

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries - old underground organization - the Illuminati.

Mark Grannis says: "Not history, not theology, just great fiction"
"OK, but not as good as Da Vinci Code"
    Overall

This book was a fun read. However, I found it rather repetitive of the Da Vinci Code in plot, premises, etc.
