it gets worse...
The election's over. Lots of people are dead. And someone shows up to tell the survivors why.
And then they get mad and do something about it.
Medical mystery thriller in a zombie-infested world.

I bought and read this book when it was first published, many years ago (it is, I believe, out of print now). I read most of the stories when they were first published on the internet in the years before that. I LOVE these stories. Though they certainly show the author's relative youth, they also show what she's grown into. Please, please, please listen to this collection. I promise there will be at least one story that will excite you.
I love this reader, and I hope we hear more from her in future.

I've been a fan of Mary Anne Mohanraj for years. She writes good characters, believable, likable. She writes good sex, descriptive without being flowery or clinical, realistic, fun. In this story she's taken both out into Outer Space and proved that aliens are just like us, and we're just like them, even if that means some of us aren't very nice.
The first half introduces - and binds together - all the characters in unexpected ways. The second half? That's where things get good. If you're a fan of sci-fi, erotica, or both, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
That said, since all the human charaters of the story are (or more accurately were when they left Earth) of the Indian diaspora, I only give four stars for Performance because the reader is pretty obviously not.
I absolutely LOVE the nearly-but-not-quite overwhelming levels of stress that Seanan subjects her characters to. Toby must be super-human, because no human would every have made it this far.
But hey, any book you make it to the last page of is a win, right Toby?
Wow. This is the darkest thing yet in Scalzi's OMW universe. We all knew life on extrasolar colonies was hard, but wow......
Excellent. I adore this universe and the prior stories in the OMW series, and this series of shorts that make up a coherent whole look to be a great addition. Don't wait, buy them as they come out!
OK, so, a lot of Dresden fans that I know were disappointed in Ghost Story. An overlapping subset were disappointed in the lack of James Marsters narration in Ghost Story. In this book, both Harry and James are back in full form.
Harry Dresden is Harry Dresden, right down to the overprotecting his friends who don't need it and too dense to see what's in front of him. This book has action, combat, frenetic running in the wrong direction, little bit of romance...All the best things about this series. We also get some backstory on a couple of major characters in the series who have looked like minor characters up to now. Things are going to get really interesting for poor, tired, Harry now..... but who needs sleep anyway, right?
The narration is spot-on, just what we've come to expect in the first twelve books. Butcher's writing remains superb, and I love that in Harry's pop-culture references (always scattered through the books) he's finally worked in an homage to Terry Pratchett. Thank You, Jim!
Well Miles has fallen into the deep ...stuff... now. Sometimes, you get what you asked for in the worst possible way.
This is the one that explains Miles' physical limitations to us all, for the books to come. It also gives us a good look into Barrayaran politics, which is important to understanding the "why" of most of what happens later.
These books are ALL wonderful, and you can't go wrong reading, um, listening to them.
This book sets the stage for everything to follow. As such, if you're just being introduced to the series it's a good place to start. The characters introduced here aren't in every following book, but the things you learn about them personally and their cultures are invaluable.
This whole series is well-written and engaging. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I love Susie Bright. I enjoy listening to her ramble on for half an hour or so about whatever sexy thing strikes her fancy.
