This was the perfect starter book for my two and a half year old niece. The language seemed to move quickly for her the first time through, but she had really picked it up, repeats the language and requests it all the time. She is hooked - and it's really fun to hear Dr. Seuss read so well...I had forgotten how rythmic and entertaining his language is.

This book is not only beautifully written with rich figurative language and metaphor, but it is also a compelling story that pulls even reluctant readers in. I found that it worked better as an audiobook for kids who struggle with language or don't prefer descriptive books. Once students can experience the language (and aren't intimidated by it as they would be in print), you can have excellent discussions about how the symbols, imagery and metaphor enhanced the reader/listeners experience. I recommend this highly!

This book is on my short list of best books. In my work as a school administrator, Difficult Conversations has given me perspective to better handle difficult conversations with parents and colleagues. Its value also extends beyond the professional realm and can be applied in all areas of my life.

Many of my grade 4 and 5 students are reading these books and, better yet, are talking about them with one another outside of their ELA classes. I am so excited to give my struggling readers a chance to know what all the buzz is about. And, it is exciting to hear other reviews and think that parents may listen and discuss these adventures with their children.
