A writer visits his retired grandparents in Florida to document their experience during the infamous siege of Leningrad. His grandmother won't talk about it, but his grandfather reluctantly consents. The result is the captivating odyssey of two young men trying to survive against desperate odds. Lev Beniov considers himself "built for deprivation." He's small, smart, and insecure, a Jewish virgin too young for the army, who spends his nights working as a volunteer firefighter with friends from his building.

Paul says: "Stunning Tale. Great Narration."

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. I am a 54 year old woman and I know others have commented on the "sexual content", and yes it was there, however I choose to look at it through the eyes of who the story centers around and those are two very young men.... For me, most of the comments, and observations were funny. The story is poignant, interesting and funny.

Emma Rathburn would love to be normal...if she can figure out what that is. Her life is a disaster, with the unexpected arising all too frequently, to trample her best efforts. Lately, things have been getting even more out-of-hand. If she can't get control, she'll have nothing left: no friends, no job, no life. But, how can she cope, when so much of the threat is more than physical, and the fingers which encircle her throat no longer belong to living hands?

I try very hard to give each narrator the benefit of trying to get past any objections to their style, however I have firmly put this narrator on my list of "I would rather rip my eyeballs out of their sockets before ever listening to her again". Please do not take my word for it, do some research for yourself. Other people have expressed similar opinions on other books she has read! By the way, this is my first review. I only thought that other narrators could be a bit annoying, this lady is in a league of her own.... The story is pretty bad as well. I suffered through less than half before I realized what a bad mood the narrator AND the book were inflicting on me. I won't make the mistake of looking at the title and thinking "oh that sounds interesting" Live and Learn.
