Original mind trip
A sense of thinking to myself
It is impossible to make a decent movie of this book. It is too personal and internal.
As with most people, I have read all of the Pendergast books in order and absolutely love the series. I think it's a tall order to keep coming up with amazingly good stories like those found in the other Pendergast books. This book contained all of the cool facets and twists I've come to expect, but the storyline was just a bit weak for me. I hope Preston and Child write more books for this series, in fact I am waiting.
I liked this book. It is typical of Preston's books in that it develops interesting characters and puts them in exciting and plausible situations. Most of his books feel like they need a sequel, but that is because I am having so much fun I want to find out what happened after the story ended. There were a couple of places where I thought the author was off a bit, but mostly, the story is well researched and full of fun technicalities.
Scott's performance was excellent. I became aware on occasion that Scott seemed to be inside the story with the characters, telling it to us as a blow by blow. I think Scott is a good matchup with Preston. He seems to flow right through the technology stuff without a hitch.
I' sorry, but I cannot recommend this book. The writing style is odd and the performance was flat. I love the story line, but it is written in a way that I never felt what the characters were feeling. On occasion I could find myself inside the story, but those moments were brief. There is a story within the story that, although told from the perspective of a very different time and place, is written in the exact style and vernacular as the main story. Come on!! I have been reading quite a bit of material from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, so perhaps I am just spoiled. I will not bother to read the follow-on book.
I never once felt engaged with the characters. The performance was monotone enough that it was like watching a movie with the sound off....very disconnected.
Probably not. His performance was flat and he did not do an adequate job of differentiating the characters. His German accent was pretty good.
Not for me.
I wish someone else had written this book. The story has a fascinating mix of ideas.
Did not read the print version
This book is related to the other in this series, but it is loaded with suspense and action. If you like the series, you will love this one!
The Scottish accents are perfect. The tone and inflections add a lot to the suspense.
I laughed in a few places, but mostly I wanted to keep the story moving so I could find out what would happen next.
I'm down to one book left in the series....and then what???
I did not read the print version
Of course, it is Pendergast. He continues to be enigmatic and fascinating
I like the whole book!
No, this book is good, front to back. It has a pressing consistency,
This is an excellent read.
Probably, in a few years. It has all the cool factiods and personality details to make for a really fun read.
It's part of a series, and should be read that way.
Super Irish and English accents!
I laughed a few times.
This is a key book in the series, and it ties a lot of things together.
The prison sequences were vivid.
Awesme, Awsome, Awsome!!!
The interplay between characters and the tension of Diogenese's evil kept me listening late into the nights.
Scott is really showing his stuff in this book. Switching accents, nailing the inflections... he is truely great in this performance. Bravo!
Good vs Evil, genious style!
This series continues to amaze me with super creativity and depth. I am getting spoiled!
I did not read the print version
It has not
I like the way the story moves along.
This book is not too long and does not take a lot of effort to follow, so it's an "easy read" that is entertaining.
I could not find myself inside this story. It was clearly written from a female's perspective and I could not relate to much of the feelings.
I liked the performance
It should not me made into a movie
