In his hometown streets of Mobile, Alabama, Satchel Paige fired rocks with enough power and precision to bring down a bird or a rival gang member. In the Negro Leagues he fine-tuned a pitch so fast that catchers complained it set their mitts on fire. After a young Joe DiMaggio managed a scratch single off of him, a Yankees scout wired his bosses, "DiMaggio all we hoped he'd be. Hit Satch one for four."

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this title to a friend. I found it very insightful into the life of a great baseball player.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would have loved to listen to this in one sitting, but I just don't have that kind of time.

    Any additional comments?

There were a few places where some of the audio was missing, the editing was bad, and there were a few repeated lines. It looks like this book has been out for a few years and I was surprised that they haven't corrected these issues yet.

Sent by their mother to live with their devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and the prejudice of the local “powhitetrash.” At eight years old, Maya is attacked by a man many times her age - and has to live with the consequences for a lifetime. But years later, she learns about love for herself and the kindness of others, her own strong spirit, and the ideas of great authors.

    Lynn says: "Insightful and touching"

If you could sum up I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in three words, what would they be?

    An amazing story.

What did you like best about this story?

The story of Maya's early life was pretty amazing.

What aspect of Maya Angelou’s performance would you have changed?

Her performance wasn't perfect, but it worked.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

  • Long After Midnight

Fantastic or conventional, chillingly suspenseful, or hauntingly nostalgic, each of these stories has that aura of the unexpected combined with the special ring of absolute rightness that is brilliantly, uniquely Bradbury.

Iola says: "Another Bradbury Worth Listening To"
    "Interesting group of stories."

Would you try another book from Ray Bradbury and/or Michael Prichard?

I have read a bunch of Bradbury and I found this title difficult to get into. There were some good stories, but most I felt were lacking something. I didn't care for the narration either and this probably added to my difficulty.

Now, in the first book ever written about this ultrasecretive department, the former director of OTS teams up with an internationally renowned intelligence historian to give listeners an unprecedented look at the devices and operations deemed "inappropriate for public disclosure" by the CIA just two years ago.

Richard says: "Unique, informative history of the CIA"
"Pretty interesting history of the CIA."

What made the experience of listening to Spycraft the most enjoyable?

Learning about the history of the CIA's Spytechs.

What aspect of David Drummond’s performance would you have changed?

I found his narration to be okay. It wasn't stellar, but it wasn't annoying either.

    Any additional comments?

The breaks between chapters were not long enough. A chapter would end and the following one would immediately begin. I found this fairly jarring.
